The AFL Rising Stars Showcase is on right now at MLB.com. You can watch it live without paying or signing up for anything. Strasburg has been scratched and the West is down 7-0 in the first, but the good news is that Ackley led off with a walk and Fields got the final out of the top half of the first.
And Heisey hit a home run, so 7-2 East now.
Fields is really throwing hard it seems, and flashing a good hook too. It looks promising, but he doesn’t seem to have that nice easy motion that some guys have.
The video feed is slightly choppy though, I’d warn you.
Fields got through the first two batters on outfield flyouts pretty quickly. The third he went to a full count on. Over the top, ball jumps out of his hands, his motion seems a bit quick to the plate, but it’s kind of violent. The last batter busted his bat, and you could hear it snap, which resulted in a pop out to Fields.
They’re also talking about the Compton Academy, which is part of the Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities program. Pretty cool.
This is also on TV on the MLB channel. HD on comcast channel 629.
Triunfel got the tag down on the runner.
If you’re holding out, it’s a good time to start watching now. Triunfel is leading off, followed by Ackley, to start the bottom half of the third.
Triunfel goes YARD!
Triunfel just lunged at a pitched outside and low… and knocked it over the left field wall.
Woot!
Apparently he fouled it off his foot before that. I didn’t catch how many pitches he saw because I had to reload the feed, but it was a 2-2 count.
The broadcasters are talking about how Ackley’s dad never let him pull the ball as a kid, just made him hit the other way, over, and over, and over.
That’s kind of neat.
He battled from a 1-2 count to a 3-2 count and then struck out looking on something on the outside corner. Still, solid performance.
Triunfel flailed at the first two pitches, which were balls, and fouled the first off. He then took a pitch a little outside for a ball, then one further outside for ball 2. After that he fouled one off his foot, fouled off a low and away changeup and then hit the dinger.
“Here we go Daryl, here we go.”
I wonder if that was his mom.
They are talking about LD%. Wacky.
This is because Yonder Alonso just drove in a pair, so it’s 7-5 now.
Daaryyyyyllll.
7-6 East, Moskos gets the hook.
Again, Triunfel, Ackley to open the next inning. The West still behind by one…
Pinch hitter for Ackley, so that’s it for him.
Triunfel took the first pitch for a ball, then grounded out. Apparently ran well even though his foot was dinged up.
Ackley is being pinch-hit for, so likely the next one we see up is going to be Aumont, whenever he pitches.
PDD are selfish hahahahahahahahha
Scheppers!
Thank you!
Damn it! If I knew I could watch it for free I would haven’t have gone to that movie.
The Fall league is awesome.
I was all set to go to this game with my son until he caught the H1N1 this week. Figured I’d be nice and not help spread it around.
JZ needs to grab Danny gutierrez in the rule 5 draft! Lights out stuff! Looks like JZ’s mistake not grabbing this kid in the Yuni trade instead! Would also love Alonso DHing for us with that 40% LD rate! Cincy has no fit at 1st!!!
Wow!!! What a game! 8-7 now! Bring in Aumont to close it out!!!
Storen gave up a home run, so it’s a
tie game8-7 West lead. Maybe we see Aumont. As to Gutierrez, 40-man rosters would have to be set before we even start to talk about Rule 5 picks.
West wins, securing home field advantage in the… wait…
Oh, hamburgers. No more baseball.
I guess I will go back to the window and wait for spring to return.
What is Truinfel’s scouting report? Is he supposed to be like a power hitter or a contact hitter or something else, and is he supposed to be a good fielder? Honestly I know very little about him.
He’s supposed to be an offense first guy. His defense will keep him off short long term because he’s going to outgrow the position, but there’s a chance that he’ll still play second. He undoubtedly has an arm for third, but the bat is more questionable.
Historically, his best asset is that he’s younger than most of the league, followed shortly by great bat skills, but he started hitting home runs (finally) in High Desert in 2008. From looks of him on the video feed, I’d venture to guess more are on the way.
