Apparently it’s not Halladay or Lee but a minor leaguer. Hopefully he can get swapped out or something, if this trade doesn’t go through I will be so incredibly depressed.
Oh god, Aumont’s hip?? Please nonononono. This cannot happen.

I’m not gonna freak out yet – pretty sure this origniated from Elliot on the Toronto side, which means it’s most likely a Philly prospect… I know everyone’s still billing this as a 3-way trade, but the Philly/Toronto side shouldn’t affect Lee going to the M’s…
In all seriousness, I’m not panicking yet. It’s not Halladay or Lee that failed, and with all the names that got moved around over the last few days, it’s likely that a different mix of prospects will be agreed to.
The whole thing could still fall apart, of course; but all three teams have motivations for getting these deals done.

Shows where my head’s at. My first thought was: “Yay! It was Mike Lowell! Now the Red Sox can’t sign Beltre and the Mariners can.”
Sometimes I think I’m turning into Red. I really, really want Beltre back in an M’s uniform for the next 4-5 years.
A Philly prospect does affect the Lee deal because if the Halladay deal falls through, Philly won’t trade Lee.

I’d worry it’s Aumont.

That wasn’t my first thought, but I did think maybe that rumor was misunderstood by somebody and created this one.

I just read on mlbtraderumors that one reporter is tweeting that it was NOT Aumont that failed. Hopefully this is a Phillies prospect and not one of the M’s!
The three/four-way trade involving Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee is not yet official; here’s our post yesterday for a refresher. The latest bit of news kicking off today’s post: Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun tweets that he heard someone involved in the trade flunked their physical (one of the minor leaguers). Shi Davidi of The Canadian Press says Phillippe Aumont passed. There appears to be six other prospects involved in the deal, if you include the Michael Taylor-Brett Wallace component. Drabek had Tommy John surgery in July of ’07, while Aumont had elbow issues toward the end of the ’08 season.

Well.. Its either Aumont (elbow) or Drabek (Tommy John surgery) would be my guess.
Who knows at this point

Yeah, but it could end up being Morrow instead of Aumont, or Saunders instead of Gillies, or Moore instead of any of the above. That would change our opinion of the trade a bit, wouldn’t it? (Well, some people wouldn’t mind seeing Morrow depart, but in any case it could end up to be a little less of a “heist” for Seattle)
It could still be a Philly prospect, but hopefully Elliot’s just senile

Couple of reports out that Aumont passed his physical, so it looks like it’s a Phillies prospect, since Aumont was the only one of our prospects who took a physical. My bet is on Drabek.
Maybe someone in Philly read Dave’s analysis of the trade and realized they may be getting hosed so he arranged to have the doc fail Aumont and will now demand Carlos Silva.

Not that I suspect conspiracy or anything, but if a Philly doc flunked somebody, it’s because the Phils have been reading USSM and finding out they got screwed.
Since it is a minor leaguer, I’m sure they can get the deal done.

If it’s not one of ours, then Amaro has the alternative of either making the deal right for Toronto, or he has to give back Halladay–a nightmare for both those teams, right?
This makes me somewhat happier…
Actually, since this technically isn’t a 3 way trade, could the Phillies end up without either Halladay or Lee?

If Halladay has agreed to an extension with the Phillies, there’s no way the trade can be undone to leave him in Toronto. They just have to figure out how to satisfy the Blue Jays or the A’s, whoever it is that has an issue here.

Not to pick on you in particular, but could people post their sources? It’s a little annoying to not be able to assess the reliability of a rumor/report. (And if people are doing this just to make it sound like they have the scoop from contacts deep within baseball, when they’re really just repeating what they heard on the radio, well….)
it’s because the Phils have been reading USSM and finding out they got screwed.
yeah, because USSM is the only site or source that assessed this as a “heist” for the M’s.

Yes. But it would certainly rank up there with the greatest GM blunders of all time, pushing pretty much every epically bad trade down a notch, which should be a consolation to Bill Bavasi, anyway.

Good point, joser. My speculation stems from a report on Total Baseball that Taylor was pulled from Mexican League action due to an elbow injury.
As for the Sea-Phi part not being in jeopardy, both Larry Stone and Jason Churchill are reporting that. Both of whom I’d trust.
Another question would be if Toronto waited to hear that all of the Sea/Phil parts were good and then said, “You know, I think we have some issues… ” in order to sweeten the pot.
You could only get away with that once but…

I’m not sure I follow the logic suggesting that the M’s-Phillies deal for Lee is safe if the issue is between the Phils and Jays. Halladay functions as an ace to replace the outgoing Lee. If the Phils can’t work out Halladay with the Jays, then would they b willing to part with Lee?
If it’s Drabek, you’ve got to wonder if the trade doesn’t get reworked with more Mariner involvement. Specifically, if Toronto is looking for a high-ceiling, close to MLB ready pitcher does Morrow get added to the deal? If so, what additional talent heads the Mariners direction?
