No Need To Write Anything

Dave · January 14, 2010 at 11:33 pm · Filed Under Mariners

If you’re wondering why the blog hasn’t been updated as much this week, there’s a few reasons, but here’s a big one – the boys over at Lookout Landing are apparently having a contest for who can post most frequently. They’re averaging about 32 posts an hour over there right now, throwing good post on top of good post. And they’re hoarding all the good ideas.

So, just go over there and scroll down. There’s not much left for me to say that they haven’t said in the last few days.

@LookoutLanding I’ll go delete my draft then.

Looks like the USS Mariner has a leak!

Mariner fans are spoiled rotten with U.S.S. Mariner, Lookout Landing, the P.I., etc. I haven’t found an MLB team with this kind of quality “blogging” or reporting.

Furthermore, the Seahawks do not have anything close to this quality coverage. Sando was amazing with ‘Hawks news and analysis, and there is good coverage for the team, however, nothing comes close to this Mariner coverage. The Sonics never had anything this great, not even remotely. The Seahawks, Sounders, or WA college teams are not gifted with this quality of information or coverage. Neither are most sports teams in general. I’m appreciative of Mariners news/reporting.

Maybe I should say “commentary” too

How about some Division West discussion?

Chad, try Field Gulls, the SBN site for the Seahawks. John Morgan and others do some awesome work over there. John is also a M’s blogosphere regular.

I was wondering if the rumor that the M’s might sign Fernando Tatis has any teeth in it.

The FO has been so active that a week without a trade or a meaningful signing (sorry Nelson) feels like a month.

I love LL, but recent inet filters installed here at work no longer let me go there. USSM is one of my only kickass sources of analysis left. I depend on you. Honestly Dave…”someone else is already doing a great job” seems like kind of a copout. I know I’ve never commented here, but I read it every day. No thoughts on Tatis? This makes me sad.

As was mentioned at the meetup, you need to look for teams that are bad, or have been bad recently, to find the best blogs. It’s not a perfect inverse correlation, but it’s there.

So I expect the Seahawk blogs have been improving quite a bit lately.

I’ve stumbled across a couple of really good general (or MLB-wide) soccer blogs; I don’t know about the Sounders in particular.

Of course none of the other sports are as amenable to the kind of statistical analysis that we see with SABR-oriented baseball blogs; that kind of rigor draws in some kinds of people (and repels other) but generally forces folks to do better analysis and make better arguments.

The FO has been so active that a week without a trade or a meaningful signing (sorry Nelson) feels like a month.

It also feels like a vacation. There’s a reason Christmas isn’t like 8 days straight (or 8 crazy nights) — nobody can handle that much stimulation in that short a time. (Especially if your presents are complicated things that fit together with all the complicated things you have already, requiring analysis and reflection).

Unfortunately, just when the FO takes a break the LL guys have a chance to catch their breath and generate eleventy-thousand worthwhile* articles to read and comment on. The bastards. Already a couple of the best articles in the last little while have been pushed off the front page.

*Depending on your definition of worthwhile. There’s some fluffy stuff floating at the top right now.

Man, the comment threads at Lookout Landing are hilarious. The “reply-to” feature really works well in that context.

The M’s just grabbed 1B Tommy Everidge off of waivers from the A’s. He destroyed AAA over 200 AB, but he was 26, and his extremely limited time with the A’s didn’t show much. Any idea if he has big league potential in or is he just AAA depth?

In other news, today is Dave Sims’ favorite day. Too bad it doesn’t fall during the playing season.

Seriously. The pace of posting at Lookout Landing has been ridiculous lately. It’s exhausting just for me to read their posts. I can’t imagine the exhaustion of having to write them all!

  17. joser on January 16th, 2010 3:37 pm

Well, there’s just one of you. There’s several LL guys, and they’re all using those writing performance enhancement drugs they’re always saying they don’t care about. Anyway, reading the posts isn’t nearly as exhausting as reading the comments.

Well, there’s just one of you

So Dave, Derek, et al, are actually the same person?

    That explains so much.
