Game 51, Twins at Mariners

Blackburn vs Vargas, 7:10 pm.

For Vargas, it should be an interesting night. On one hand, the Twins line-up is very left-handed, which helps him. On the other hand, those left-handed hitters are really good, so that’s kind of a problem. I’d expect more fastballs than usual tonight, but if he doesn’t have pinpoint location, there’s a good chance the folks in the right field bleachers could have some souvenir chasing to do.

With the team finally done facing a string of lefties, Saunders is back in the line-up playing left field. Fear not, though, as Mike Sweeney is still in there, hitting clean-up, as Saunders gives Bradley the day off instead. I wonder if Wak realizes that Mr. Hot Bat is 1 for his last 14. In and of itself, that is meaningless information, of course, but considering that the only justification for playing him is that he’s “swinging a hot bat”, I’d say its kind of relevant to note that, well, he’s not.

Rick – My wife has been saying swear words that I haven’t heard since my time in the Navy. All directed at Mr Inconsistent calling balls/strikes.

I am too far away to verbally abuse this umpire, but I hope he hears me in his conscience.

    Where you at?

I am once again reminded of how much I dislike Olson’s face.

    Garret Olson?

    I live in Billings, Montana.

I lived in Seattle for 25 years.

    I’m working on coming back.

Last year, the Billings Mustangs had the worst year in their history–ever. I still went to the games. Best short-A ballpark I’ve ever visited.

Makes the M’s season look like a cakewalk so far, but with some really, really crappy cake.

And in random former-M’s-related news, I ran into R.A. Dickey yesterday–literally. Actually, my wife and I ran (well, more like walked) into both Dickey and Mike Pelfrey as they made their way toward the visitors’ clubhouse entrance of Petco Park. Kind of a fun awkward moment there.

Oh, I thought you were at Safeco, and just far away from the plate.

I was going to tell you that you could probably move up, if you wanted.

Heck, if you want, you can fill in for Tui.

Wow, Halman has 2 HRs and a 2B tonight. Good night to be an M’a fan.

    Better than Colome sure!

    I’m suddenly liking this ump.

4″ outside and called a strike.

Apparently he has somewhere to go.

Is it senior citizen’s night at Deja vu?

    Good job Mariners!

I always liked RA Dickey, as a person. Plus, he was an interesting example of biology and anatomy.

I always wondered what would happen if pitchers had reconstructive surgery to rebuild their elbows to be more efficient or resilient. It will happen.

    Huzzah for the Mariners!

Serious question here. Where is Griffey ever on those high five lines at the end? I mean like legitimately has anyone ever seen him? Or does anyone know what he is doing if he is not there?

Please don’t give sarcastic remarks though, like “he’s sleeping.”

  15. tubbabubba22 on June 1st, 2010 9:59 pm

    just curious

  16. Westside guy on June 1st, 2010 10:00 pm

tubbabubba22, I’ve wondered the same thing – and I’m not the only one.

I must say that answering “he’s sleeping” might very well not be sarcastic.

Heck, if you want, you can fill in for Tui.

In a past life, I played with his brother, WFB, and Jason Ellison all in one day. They all played sports; I ended up playing guitar.

Now, ask me if I’d trade for a day.

  18. tubbabubba22 on June 1st, 2010 10:02 pm

I just find it really interesting that I can seemingly never see him. I am honestly not bashing him I was just wondering if anyone has ever heard a good explanation.

Seems like a good question for Drayer.

Somehow the Mariner’s started as favorites today in Vegas for this game, although by a slim margin.

It’s funny how the line moves at least ten points the other way when Wak puts out a lineup that Dave disapproves of… now the Twinkies are favored.

Ya, I bought that win by betting on the Twins. We win again tomorrow!

I would just like to point out the most important stat:

Mariners record with me in attendance: 4-2
Mariners record without me in attendance: 16-29
