Well Then

Apparently, the deal is off. Joel Sherman and others report that talks hit a snag (potentially over David Adams’ ankle injury) and another team has “jumped in hard”.
Argh – I’m going to be on a plane in two hours, so I won’t be able to keep on top of this tonight. Will do analysis of whatever deal happens when I can.
/Hard Dick.. Just awesome..
Joel Sherman reporting deal done: Lee + Lowe to Rangers for Smoak + 3 others.
Including Lowe sure makes sense. The Rangers seem to love hard throwers more than most.
Is it possible to trade a player on the DL? Isn’t there some rule against it?
Lee for Smoak straight up would have been a great deal IMO. I look forward to seeing the details of the deal.
Great job Jack!
So, who’s pitching for the M’s tonight?
How will these guys stack up against what we gave Philly for Lee?

Yes … doable.
No rules against it.
You can’t trade a draft pick within 365 days of having drafted the player, but you can trade an entire legion of DL’d players if someone wants them.

It will be like having won the lottery at precisely the same time we were getting a blow job … in comparison to watching Aardsma pitch.
I remember reading once that you have to get permission from the commisionner’s office to trade a player on the DL.
Curious why they would want an injured player. If I were them, I would have looked farther down in the system for some projectable arms.
Also surprised Branyan isn’t in the deal.
Yeah I am really surprised as well. So we know have 3 first basemen and 1 DH or 2 first basemen and 2 DH. And Smoak should get the most major league playing time out of all of them. Bradley could go to left but Saunders has already outplayed him.
But then again, I guess the Rangers may not have wanted the Russ Bus or Kotchman.
The deal is Lowe+Lee for Smoak, Josh Lueke, Matthew Lawson, and Blake Beavan according to John Paul Morosi. At this stage of the deal I think we can assume he is a good source.
You should hear what the ownership in Cleveland has to say….
Even if the deal was just Smoak I think most people would say the M’s got more for half a season of Lee than the Phillies got for a full season.
They also gave up nothing in the way of prospects for a World Series appearance in their half year of Lee. By their logic (flawed as it might be), they couldn’t have Halladay, who they locked up long term, and Lee. Nobody can say they made a bad choice there, and they did all of that acquiring without giving up Domonic Brown. They’re not really losing sleep at night over this.
Well, the irony in the Earth-stopping LeBron “Decision” could be that the Cavs continue to suck and lose fans for the next several years at the same time that the Heat manage to siphon off the half-dozen or so remaining Panther fans down in South Florida — while an alliance of ownership groups join forces to: 1) build a new NBA/NHL arena in Seattle, and 2) move both the Cavs and Panthers here!
Don’cha jus’ love my “perfect storm” scenarios?! 🙂
