Game 127, Mariners at Red Sox
Hernandez vs Wakefield, 4:10 pm.
Happy Felix Half Of The Day.
Felix is worth watching, even if the rest of the team isn’t. But, the more interesting baseball on TV is on later tonight, when Tacoma and Portland begin their annual five game series, all five of which are on TV – Comcast Sportsnet, channel 179 for those of you who have Comcast Digital. Tonight at 7:00, its Mauricio Robles vs Cory Luebke, with Dustin Ackley, Justin Smoak, and company carrying the offense. Tomorrow night is Michael Pineda’s turn in what will probably be his last appearance in 2010.
The Rainiers have a 2 1/2 game lead with 13 games to play, so the games mean something. Unlike the one that’s going to start in Boston shortly.
Ichiro, RF
Figgins, 2B
Branyan, DH
Lopez, 3B
Kotchman, 1B
Gutierrez, CF
Moore, C
Tuiasosopo, LF
Josh Wilson, SS

Thanks for the tip on the Rainiers games.
Lots of exciting sports action tonight. Washington vs Texas (LLWS) and Seattle vs LA (WNBA).
I’m so glad these games are on TV. It’s the only game that is televised of Michael Pineda. It’s like the Mariners are keeping him away from the fans that don’t pay.
I’ll watch Robles. Usually around the 4th inning he starts losing his control.
Tui in left again, Langerhans sitting.
What I said a day or two ago about giving Brown the benefit of the doubt… I take it back. He’s apparently a very good AAA manager; but he is an AAA manager.
Westy … you didn’t really expect Langerhans to start both ends of the double-header, did you? No, you didn’t … you are just looking to inspire some dialogue. I bit. My bad.
With Saunders hurt and with Langerhans being what he is, there aren’t any other LF options for the late game other than to start (cough, cough, gag) Tui tonight. Sad commentary on a sad team, in a sad season. I wouldn’t judge Brown by this decision though. There are other things to judge him by, but he is fine for what he has been asked to do. He won’t be the teams manager of the future. He knows it. He will definitely have a job with the org, but he isn’t going to be the Manager. If he can get them to play at or even near .450 ball during his tenure, he will have accomplished his mission.
Beltre just got ran. Must have said the magic word(s). There goes Francona too. I better get back to the TV.
Lopez = blind + squirrel + acorn
Not to mention FC Sounders v. Monterrey in the CONCACAF Champions League.
Catchers would do well to watch goaltenders in hockey. Controlling rebounds is just as important as actually stopping the ball/puck. That last wild pitch went right through the 6-hole, between the arm and torso. No bueno.
in other news, light mist is like kryptonite to Josh Wilson.
Catchers are taught to square up to block it to keep it in front of them. OTOH, I think goalies are supposed to deflect it to one side so as to avoid giving up a rebound right in front of the net.
If there was a “luck” stat for pitchers Felix would undoubtedly be last in the majors.
Let’s not forget that the Rainiers will play their home games at Safeco Field if they make the playoffs. Pretty cool.
No one has mentioned this yet but, Felix recorded his 1,000th strikeout of his career, 3rd youngest since 1952 to record 1,000. I believe 4th all time. So glad we have him until 2014.
Why the hell is Felix still there with almost 120 pitches???? Where the hell is League?
Congrats to Felix.
Though I missed it while watching the much more interesting Auburn, WA little league team.
Sort of sad, most of the kids named teams other than the Mariners as their favorite.
You have to pry the ball out of The King’s fingers. With this pen, I don’t blame him.
Is something up with Aardsma? I’d expect him here.
It’d be nice to ignore the mariners and have FSN broadcast the Rainiers games. They’re way more interesting than the M’s.
Unfortunately I had to turn the game broadcast (radio) off early because some work tasks required concentration.
I understand the point you’re making, Mike, and I know a lot of people will share your opinion. But couldn’t you make the same arguments regarding Lopez, for example? We don’t have any quality infield backup options (and moving Figgy to cover for an injured Lopez just moves the problem to second base).
Anyway, to answer your question – yes, I would’ve run Langerhans out there for both games. I don’t think playing left field for two games is too rigorous for a pro athlete.
This might be the last annual series. Portland is losing their team (moving to Lake Elsinore, then eventually Escondido in CA) because their stadium is going kickball only for the new Portland MLS team.
Took a linedrive off the hip a few days ago in Baltimore. Not sure when he’ll be ready to go again.
