USSM Chat – 9/7/10

I’m on the plane back to NC and figured I’d take advantage of the wifi and some downtime to do another chat, since the last one was pretty well received. Let’s see how this works from 35,000 feet.

Boone was named in the Mitchell report.

Meanwhile, the winter had another jolt for Boone, when a list of players that supposedly were going to be named in the Mitchell Report circulated briefly on the Internet before the report’s release in December.

Boone’s name was on the list, which turned out to be bogus and was quickly withdrawn. But the damage had been done; the list still comes up in some Internet searches.

My bad – I thought he was in the report.

Thanks for doing the chat Dave. Any way this could become a regular feature, like once a month?

I can’t believe at least one chatter was complaining about Saunders already – especially given that the guy said, as part of the complaint, “he only projects to 18-20 HRs” (emphasis mine).

Just how many 30-HR left fielders with good range do people think are out there, anyway? You really think 18-20 is chump change? That’d put him 4th-5th of all left fielders in baseball this year, for instance.

    Oops – 5th or 6th.

Thanks for doing the chat. Mark Reynolds struck out over 200 times in 2006 in lower levels than Halman at the same age.

WSG, I saw that too and was like “and how is that bad?” I think a 20/20 and great defense out of Saunders is great from him. And the fact that he could play all 3 OF spots makes him a valuable commodity. I think I’ve heard 30/30 for a career year is Saunders upside. But 20/20 is more realistic.
