M’s Release Josh Wilson

Well, so much for Josh Wilson making the team. I read that one pretty wrong, apparently.
Now it seems like the last spot on the bench is down to either Luis Rodriguez or an acquisition from outside the organization. I guess it’s also possible that they could go with 13 pitchers and carry both Jimenez and Wilhelmsen, but given the fragility of Milton Bradley and Jack Wilson, a three man bench would be about the worst idea of all time.
How likely is it that we acquire someone from the outside? Nolan Reimold was optioned to Triple A today. Maybe he’d be a good outside the organization acquisition? Sure he’s a righty, but I gotta think he’s better than some of the options we have. And he’s only 27.
Whoa.
I heard Jose Lopez is available in trade. 🙂
Where is Willie Bloomquist when you need him?
I’m not a WFB fan, but I would take him over Josh Wilson. 😉
In any case, I bet there’s a trade in the works… Either that, or they’re planning to turn Ryan Langerhans into Mark McLemore. 😀
I hope this means the Ms have seen something this spring that makes them believe in Luis Rodriguez’s AAA performance last year. Reminds of Dave’s Fangraphs article from August.
Thank god the ‘paperboy’ era is finally over.
Actually, a RH bat who wouldn’t embarass himself in the outfield is probably what they’d be looking for if they were looking at another org’s castoffs (or a trade).
Earning $900K guaranteed money from the Diamondbacks, last I heard. With a mutual option for 2012 (ah, optimism).
But would you pay almost a million bucks for him?
Fun fact: he turns 34 this year.
I saw Nolan Reimold up close and personal at some Norfolk Tides(AAA) games, I wouldn’t trade for him.
Maybe they’ve been paying attention to what Dave posts, and are looking to add a 1B/3B type who bats right-handed.
His numbers last year were awful, but Pedro Feliz is available.
That would be Eric Byrnes pulling the bat back on a suicide squeeze attempt.
And no way do I believe that THEY believe they can get by on a three-man bench. The bench depth is gonna be onion-skin thin as it is, whether it’s a three or four-man bench.
Baker is saying that Josh Wilson says it’s Luis Rodriguez.
lesch2k:
did you have to bring that up? I was at that game…hell of a birthday present, eh? LOL
agree though…wtf was he thinking!
Two of my least favorite Mariners are gone. One of them might be back, but at the very least, they won’t be on the 25-man roster when the season starts, which is good enough for me.
Adios, Tui and Paperboy. Boy did you guys suck.
Chris – sorry, it was my highlight of the year…
So weird to have a team that doesn’t think Tui and Paperboy should be on the everyday roster. (It’s been hard enough getting used to a roster without Lopez batting cleanup)…
It’s almost like we’re trying to build a REAL baseball team now…
Ichiro and Felix must have the occasional discussion about “Boy, we’ve come a long way since 2009” (looking around at all the new faces).
SonofZavaras- I’m holding out hope that we’ll be seeing a reliever and a position guy in the next week that no one had on the radar… There were A LOT of non roster invitees around the league this Spring, so there are gonna be a heap of roster purges in the next few days.
Although everyone seems to be celebrating this move, I for one am somewhat conflicted. Wilson is a guy who gets so much out of what his natural abilities are, and has come so far against the odds, that I can’t help but root for him. Good luck, Paperboy, we hardly knew ya’.
As was pointed out on the LL podcast, Erik FREAKING Bedard is our 3rd most tenured player.
Any chance Baltimore would make a deal for Jake Fox? He seems like the kind of player who would fit perfectly on our bench!
