Game 12, Indians at Mariners
Millwood vs Masterson, 7:05 pm.
So, we’re apparently not the only ones who have discerned that Miguel Olivo shouldn’t be playing against right-handed pitching. After week one’s all-Olivo-all-the-time line-ups, Wedge has inserted John Jaso into the DH spot tonight and put Jesus Montero behind the plate for the third time. This is likely in part a response to Justin Masterson’s career platoon splits (.601 OPS against RHBs, .787 against LHBs), but kudos to Wedge for being willing to end the Olivo-as-everyday-catcher thing in mid-April. I’m guessing he’s still going to play more than he should, but at least he’s not the de facto catcher at the moment, and Wedge is showing that he will put non-Olivo line-ups on the field.

Cardinal rule violated. Down by a run in the last inning … You gotta take a strike. Cardinal rule, rules. Baseball gods hate that violation.
Justin Smoak grounds out to first, and the ticker says, “How impressed ate you with Smoak’s performance?”
Classic.
Iwakuma maybe nursing a strain of some sort. That’s just a guess, with nothing to really back it up. But it would kind of make sense.
Seager!
Hey, 200 comments … We all win a free set of steak knives. Atta boy Seager. Come on Montero!
Nice!!
Ouch!
Chin music on that one. Better there than in the eye socket. Come on Luis Rodriguez!
Really? Olivo out to run for Montero?
Jesus!
That was an Ouch for both the chin music there, and for Olivo pinch running???
Wedge just had to get Miggy in at some stage!
I’m lovin’ it!
Olivo actually runs well for a catcher whereas Montero doesn’t run well for cold glue.
The way the offense is sputtering this game, you gotta get last year’s best hitter in the game somehow, especially because you need his defense if this goes to extras. That’s why Olivo.
Miggy is much faster than Montero. Not even close.
Horrible feeling this will come down to Ryan and we know how well that will go.
I am officially DONE with Saunders. Get Guti back NOW. DTFT!
Oh no.
Hey Ryan: less Deniro, more Belanger
On offense, less Belanger and more of anybody else.
Wow, talk about setting the stage
Come on Jaso!!!
I obviously have no idea what constitutes a successfully-checked swing, because I would have called a strike on that.
But I’ll take it.
Wouldn’t it be funny if he laid down a bunt, made it safely? I don’t expect that, but he does have speed.
Please Jaso – show Wedge the way.
Imagine a Jaso Grand Salami!
Damn Sims… hate it when he does that!
Loved how earlier, Cleveland announcers described Montero as “Mr. Scissorhands behind the plate.”
Tough loss.
Well, shit.
Baseball Gods hate that crap. Take a strike, dumbass. I didn’t make the rule.
That was a fun game though. That botched double play by Ryan really seems to be the key to this loss.
that sounded SO good off the bat 🙁
We ate dinner during the fourth inning rally and turned it on in time to watch them hand it away without a fight.
Too late to blame you, Breadbaker … I already blamed Wedge, then Steve for not providing an answer, then the violation of the baseball Gods rule by Smoak and Jaso in the 9th inning. Keep in mind, every one of these observations was based on nothing other than quantifiable data. I would be happy to throw your dining arrangements into the mix, but I simply can’t.
We cannot blow anyone out. We cant even win with big early leads. Second big early lead we’ve lost in the young season…
Cruel loss M’s.
Yes, but losing a lead in the first inning to Texas when they haven’t even batted yet is not the same as losing a lead in the middle of the game to the Indians at home. This was worse. Texas will kill anyone; Cleveland will kill us.
