Game 103, Royals at Mariners

Millwood vs. Chen, 1:10 pm.
2B-L Ackley
RF-R Wells
CF-L Saunders
DH-R Montero
3B-L Seager
C-R Olivo
1B-L Carp
LF-B Robinson
SS-R Ryan
Aside from helping win today’s game, a good start from Millwood would help marginally increase his trade value. Most of the talk has been about whether to trade Vargas, but Millwood is an even more obvious choice to trade, since there’s no reason to bring him back next year. Of course, even if he is traded he won’t fetch much in return, probably a low-level, second-tier pitching prospect.

Yuni is hitting 5 for the Royals, and I really enjoy that.
Finally they put someone else in RF other than Peguero!
Well, the team is facing a lefty this time. Peguero’s looked pretty lost even against righties.
That vipbox.tv site seems to be pushing a lot of crapware.
I have never had a problem with the vipbox.tv before.
Wow, doesn’t look like many people showed up for the Randy/Dan bobblehead…
I think Casper might have been out….
If mlb.tv didn’t have their ridiculous blackout rules, I’d buy it every year.
No TV? Wow…
You are 100% right, their blackout rules are insane. I mean, you can use proxys to get around it but that just makes it choppy and slow and its just not worth it.
Okay, let’s take advantage of the error!
Nice steal, Trayvon.
Here’s an idea. Instead of trading Vargas and Millwood for low level junk, we keep them. Let them pitch out the season and then Millwood’s gone and then we trade Vagas in the off season. In the mean time our young pitchers are gaining experience in the minors. This swap/trade and hope we catch lightning in a bottle with all our young kids at the same time is iffy at best.
I’d try to trade Millwood for a return, I’d be ok with holding on to Vargas though.
The time to trade Vargas, if you’re going to trade him, is now. You can get something out of a desperate team at the trade deadline. In the offseason, everybody will be looking at his upcoming arbitration award and figuring (whether or not they’re right) that they can find an equivalent pitcher some other way for cheaper.
MONTY!!
MONTERO!!!!!!
Chen seems to be handling our lefties pretty well – good thing Wells and Monty our hitting him!
And another error by KC!
YEAH KC ERRORS
Olivo joins the party!
Did Olivo just get a hit with a runner in scoring position?
See, getting “something” for our veterns lately hasn’t worked all that well(other than maybe Wells). I just don’t see how our trading vets for a collect of prospects has done us much good in the last 4 years.
Millwood is probably going to walk, so I’d rather get something for him than nothing.
Vargas is dependent on whether a team panics and overpays or not.
If he walks you do get something. You add his mil to what you need to get an outfielder.
“If he walks you do get something. You add his mil to what you need to get an outfielder.”
You get that whether he walks or not….What you don’t get, is whatever a team would give up for him.
I won’t argue the point anymore but low level prospects are the same as getting nothing unless you believe in “lightning in a bottle”.
Look at that! Having somebody else in instead of Peguero is already paying dividends!!
what you’re calling something, has nothing to do with trading him. It’s something you get either way. The difference between dealing him now, or letting him go in the off-season, is the low level prospect and possibly some salary relief this year. There’s no difference in ‘what you can pay an OF next year by keeping him on the roster the rest of the year.
Wow! By the way Yuni, that’s how you play shortstop.
Uh oh, he’s League’ing it…
Good job Saunders … Drew a walk and stole a money bag. We need to get that insurance run.
Listening to Fairley on the radio today – has not been too bad. He sure has a lot of enthusiasm and passion, still.
Thanks, KC! Not sure who blew it (Pitcher or Yuni) … Just glad it worked out.
Yay for Yuni!
Overall I like Red. I enjoy his stories, and given his career I don’t mind when he talks about things like approach and the like.
It’s just when he gets all old school about grit and veteraniness and such that he bugs me…
Not sure about that strike 2 call.
Good job Carp!
Are you watching the game, Westy – and if yes, how/where?
Kyle posted a link early on…

The site seems to want to fill your screen with popup ads – be warned.
I’d like to see us hang onto Wilhelmsen…
Me too … Gotta stop the constant churn when it makes sense … And he makes sense.
Could not “download” on the iPhone, but thank you anyway.
Come on Willy! Man, that insurance run was big
Sweet!!!
This game is getting interesting… Wells *almost* had that!
Can the Mariners play the Royals more?
Woo Hoo!
Someone changed it to “dubious link” lol. Well, I don’t deal with any pop-ups when I go there so………sorry?
Anyway, we should play Kansas City for 25 more games.
I was at the game, which was the best way to see it by far (particularly since RJ appeared at the very end to cheer Wilhelmsen on). Main thought: the difference between Ryan and Betancourt was the difference in the game.
