Game 49, Rangers at Mariners
King Felix vs. Derek Holland, 7:10pm
Maybe the M’s will fare better against a lefty; they’re 12-21 against righty starters on the year, as Michael Morse has struggled and Shoppach’s early season success waned.
Maybe Felix can stop the skid with a dominating performance on his bobblehead day. He nuked the Rangers last year at the USSM/LL night, and today’s the Baseball Prospectus event at Safeco (maybe he likes statheads?).
Maybe Brendan Ryan’s hot streak balances the line up and helps them wring more runs from a given number of base runners.
Maybe watching Felix can help make watching the M’s fun again, as we revel in the Royal Changeup and drink up, as life is short and pitching rotations are shorter. In a few days, we’ll deal with Harang and Saunders, so it’s best to consciously take what joy the team allots us.
Maybe the M’s beat up on Holland and score 21 like they did last year. Sure, that was in Arlington, and to date Holland’s been much better in 2013 than he was in 2012, but hey, they scored 21 in a game started by Holland once. He’s probably thinking about that right now.
Maybe Michael Saunders stops guessing/pressing/trying to do too much/still feeling the effects of his injuries/whatever explanation you prefer and starts hitting again.
Maybe the M’s get to the Rangers bullpen and exploit Joe Ortiz and Tanner Scheppers, two pitchers I’ve selected randomly.
Maybe we all remember why we say ‘Happy Felix Day.’
Line-up:
1: Bay, LF
2: Seager, 3B
3: Morse, RF
4: Morales, DH
5: Smoak, 1B
6: Saunders, CF
7: Shoppach, C
8: Triunfel, 2B
9: Ryan, SS
SP: El Cartelua
Maybe Dustin Ackley can remember he’s so much more than a platoon player and…awww crap.

This Bay leading off thing just really kills me…
Who cares if Bay is leading off? Batting order doesn’t matter that much.
Hey it’s not Ibañez so I don’t care…
On a side note – something’s changed on the USSM site recently, and editing posts (on an iPad, anyway) doesn’t seem to work anymore.
I kind of thought it is established that your best hitter should lead off….is Bay really our best? If so that is pitiful….
That’s a whole lotta maybe’s, Marc. That wasn’t suggestive, was it?!
Regarding Bay leading off….
He still has more speed than half the lineup (tonight), hit’s lefties good along with a strong OBP.
I don’t have a problem with it.
There you to, Mr. Bay.
If he gets on base I don’t have any problem with him leading off. I always thought Saunders was better suited for hitting second.
That pitch to Morales couldn’t have been much better. Hitters in baseball are becoming way too passive.
SWING THE BAT!
A seven pitch at bat and only one swing….WOW!
wow! I’m so not used to seeing somebody that can actually catch.
6 of 8 batters hit Felix in first two innings. That does not occur very often. Is Felix giving up or is something else wrong? Is he pissed Montero is gone?
Looks like the M’s used up their luck for the next month or so after the Andrus error and the combined miscues by Cruz and Profar.
Back to back errors by Andrus. Triunfel is error free!
Scorekeeper changed his mind and charged last error to Profar.
Felix is getting pounded. He is fortunate to only have given up 4 runs so far.
This is quite vexing.
This Felix guy is not looking like a 150 million dollar picture…
I had no idea Derek Holland threw in the upper 90s.
I’m not as fond of Michael Morse, infield slap hitter…
I’m not fond of Michael Morse.
This team can’t do much right and when Felix is off, it’s just junk. Plus Houston is so bad the M’s can’t even win the Carlos Rodon sweepstakes. This sucks.
Looks like it is back to RTTS on The Show.
Did Morse just give up on that at bat? He swung at the same pitch in the same awful location three times.
Nobody runs through first base anymore.
And… It must easy to scout us. I mean .. There must be no scouting of our hitters.
So we’re not the only ones mocking Babysteps Monty? Laughter all around in the booth about him hitting a triple.
Re: Morse’s at bat
I guess we know why the Nationals were willing to move him.
Not to mention the Nationals are scoring less runs than we are and they still have a better record.
The BABIP-spectacle continues: Felix faces 28 Batters, allows 17 Balls in play out of which 10 fall for hits. Ouch!
Whew! What’s that smell? oh, ok.
