Game 104, Mariners at Angels
King Felix vs. Jaime Barria, 6:07pm
Happy Felix Day. Last night’s loss was a painful one, as the M’s couldn’t do more against an Angels bullpen that they’ve torched this season, and because they were a finger from taking the lead on a bizarre attempt at a steal of home.
On the plus side, it’s looking like Dee Gordon’s locked in again, which makes it slightly less painful that he’s leading off every game. Gordon’s a classic guy who’ll get undervalued by traditional sabermetrics, but no matter how you value him, I guarantee you Jerry Dipoto values him more.
Think Tuivailala may join the team tomorrow, but we’ll see if he’s in uniform tonight.
1: Gordon, 2B
2: Segura, SS
3: Haniger, RF
4: Cruz, DH
5: Seager, 3B
6: Span, LF
7: Healy, 1B
8: Zunino, C
9: Heredia, CF
SP: El Cartelua

So much for Felix. Done.
This is gonna suck for the rest of the year if they continue to run Felix out there every 5th day. I’ll repeat, there’s something wrong injurywise, or he’s just done. I’m leaning towards done.
And then the pen collapses completely.
I’m in the camp that Felix is done. The organization needs to address this 800-lb gorilla in the room and face reality.
It sucks that Felix pitched brilliantly on horrible Mariners teams only to lead to this.
This game is a waste at this point. Get some people some at bats. Try out a pitcher who’s been sitting for a bit. Give up on tonight, and try to come back tomorrow. At least the Wild Card teams all lost (or are losing).
Hmm, Healy seeing action at third base for the first time with the Mariners.
Over and over I see articles that outline his reluctancy to use technology and embrace the advice by Mel. I seriously wonder if he has come to terms with the fact that he is hurting this team. He really needs to be moved to the bullpen.
One of the more puzzling moves tonight was starting Heredia in CF against a RHP. Unless I’m missing something, such as a minor injury to Gamel, Scott should be starting Haniger in CF against RHP; Span and Gamel in the corners.
We have been seeing 5 players in the lineup with sub .320 OBP’s, 3 of which are sub .285. That will change a bit when Cano returns, but they really have to do better at controlling the zone, which starts with controlling the lineups.
Felix is hurting the team’s playoff chances. He doesn’t belong in the rotation or the bullpen. He should volunteer to go to the Arizona league and learn how to pitch with what he has or retire.
Nice to know Servais is reading my comments and acting upon them.
I think this team can hold an 8 run lead. It is amazing they will have a 2 game lead after the disaster these past weeks have been.
They tried to not hold the eight run lead, though.
This is why the Ms defy gravity :
They lost 27 out of the 28 innings and finished the series 1-2.
