Game Six, Mariners at Rangers

Hernandez vs Harrison, 12:10 pm

Happy Felix Day, indeed.

The M’s switch up the line-up a little bit, moving Bradley down to the #5 spot. I’m sure this is a “take the pressure off of Milton” move, but it’s not like Jose Lopez is killing the ball right now or anything, and this could come back to haunt the M’s in the late innings. Most of the Rangers good relievers are right-handers, so if the top of the order gets on and Lopez comes up with Bradley on deck, Wak may regret this decision pretty quickly.

Ichiro, RF
Figgins, 2B
Gutierrez, CF
Lopez, 3B
Bradley, LF
Mascot, DH
Kotchman, 1B
Johnson, C
Wilson, SS

MAN the one game we can’t watch on our mlb.tv sounds amazing. At least I’m moving back to the Northwest at the end of this month!

Honestly, this game has been anything but amazing. So frustrating actually. The 9th has been plesant but you can watch the 10 seconds of replays to get the same amount of excitement we’ve gotten.

On that note…Mariners Win!! Thank you Franklin!

  17. fargomsfan on April 10th, 2010 3:06 pm

Could this be a win we look back on later this year?

  18. Jordan on April 10th, 2010 3:06 pm

2-0 w/ Felix, 0-4 w/o….It’s going to be fun. Hurry back Cliff Freakin’ Lee and Erik um maybe Bedard.

In a Guti interview, look for him to start any answer with “Well you know”

Good point, hopefully the replays are up soon :).

In the immortal words of Derek and Dave: a run saved is equal to a run scored.

I hope the same people that were curious to see how Dave was going to spin this game positively still feel that way.

  23. Breadbaker on April 10th, 2010 3:13 pm

I do have to give rare props to the Fox announcers for foreshadowing Francisco’s meltdown. On the other hand, they barely seemed to register that the Rangers were down to their last strike.

Can the negativity come down a notch please?

Nah, it’s good to let the nattering nabobs have free reign early: it makes rubbing in the ultimate result all the more satisfying.

Why can’t we do this the whole game!!

Because it’s more exciting this way. Plus it chases off all the folks who are willing to switch away from baseball to the hours of incontinence and erectile dysfunction ads that passes for golf coverage, which makes the game thread better for the rest of us.

I like how Ichiro was more excited than Guti.

Ichiro is a student of the game. He knows greatness when he plays beside it.

The most amazing thing about Gutierrez’s catch, was that all last season he was making plays look simple. To see him execute a difficult catch like that one is just special…it didn’t even look THAT difficult to him.

haha, I was going to say the same thing! He probably had it written out for the loss and was about to post it when that happened.

I’d prefer to give them free rein, but I did find the ninth inning results encouraging. Even if they’d lost the game, the guys came out in the ninth trying. (Choosing to ignore the crap at-bats in the 7th and 8th) I suppose it’s too early for them to give up, even if a percentage of the fans have.

I love Jr, but man…has he put on weight in the offseason? Might have to start calling him CC SaGriffia

“I love Jr, but man…has he put on weight in the offseason? Might have to start calling him CC SaGriffia.”

Interesting, since he had reportedly lost weight and was feeling fitter than ever coming into spring training. Though i guess he could have put the weight back on…

    La Mort aux choses volants!

Pedantically, it’s actually “volantes.” But you still get an A-, Breadbaker.

  33. allenwu on April 10th, 2010 4:58 pm

Gutierrez better start getting some attention. If someone on the Yankees or Redsox made that play (Mike Cameron “might” have a shot? Maybe not :/), all the news would be about how he’s the best defensive centerfielder in history.

And the best thing about “The Catch” was how perfect it was. No hesitation, great first step, and smooth all the way. It did not occur to me (until after the play was made) that any other centerfielder would have missed that catch completely. He makes it look too easy.

That’s not completely fair to Snell. Had the offense done their job and made things happen like they are supposed to, that game should have been won.

It’s also “Le mort”, but who do we think we are, Luke French?

  36. rsrobinson on April 10th, 2010 6:08 pm

I was at the game today and it was a perfect day for baseball, which doesn’t come all that often in Texas. Very depressing game though until the ninth inning. Gutierrez! Then after the game Clint Black put on a concert as we sat on a grassy lawn just outside of the stadium. All in all a wonderful day…the type of day baseball was invented for!

Awesome game. Those of you who have spent the past 4 days quivering may take a bit of solace in this kind of victory…

…but likely not. Be thankful that you live where you do, with a team like you have. Pioneer League games don’t start until mid-June, and I’m damned jealous, even if Brandon League’s fastballs look like Mexican Jumping Beans.
