Game 12, Tigers at Mariners
Verlander vs Rowland-Smith, 6:10 pm.
On paper, this isn’t a very good match-up for the M’s. The Tigers line-up is pretty right-handed, so even though RRS doesn’t demonstrate a big platoon split, this is still not really the kind of line-up you want him facing. Verlander, of course, is one of the best pitchers in the game, and capable of throwing zeros at the M’s as long as he stays in. If the M’s hack at too many of his fastballs and give him easy outs, they have very little chance of winning. They have to make him work, get his pitch count up, and try to win the game against Detroit’s bullpen.
Ichiro, RF
Figgins, 2B
Gutierrez, CF
Lopez, 2B
Griffey, DH
Bradley, LF
Kotchman, 1B

I’m sure he could still figure it out
I still have to do a double take every time I see a Mariner actually walking… its a strange new world…
My fantasy team wants this to stay close for the Aardsma Save. The Mariner fan in me wants this to get blown open and bat around. Really I’ll just take a win.
OK, but that wasn’t analysis. It was just results.
Dirk –
You should be rooting for a two run homer!
Proof that even if you sling it 101 mph, the baserunner can still abuse you!
And Frankie goes to Hollywood yet again.
Ya know, that trade looks better and better everyday, Mr. Zduriencik.
DTFT is fast becoming my favorite Mariner.
Wow. Nice slide by Figgins.
Jr. making contact with 101 mph fastball? Nice!
Consistently hitting triple digits…
Good Point. Also, I agree with your original post, I just don’t like getting “virtually” yelled at…
It’s a sad thing when Junior comes up against Zumaya and I don’t think he has a chance to pull one.
Pretty good at bad, damn near pulled it.
Junior made contact and got the ball in the air to the outfield, though. He didn’t look overmatched.
How the hell was Bonds crushing balls at age 40 and Jr looks like he couldn’t hit American legion pitching. Oh wait. Never mind.
Yeah Breadbaker. This park was built for Griffey 2000, not Griffey 2010… as demonstrated by that almost-dangerous flyout to center.
He hit a solid line drive right up the middle, nothing wrong with that except it was right at the centerfielder. If he was a millisecond later it would have gone in the left center gap and scored Gutierrez.
I have no actual idea what Junior looked like hitting there as I’m “watching” the game on gameday. It did feel good to say however…
Nice positioning, Milton.
FIVE HUNDRED!!!
Hello, .500!
I hope the Mariners making it to .500 puts DMZ in such a good mood that he churns out a sci-fi book so we can all go buy it.
Outstanding win. They’re all good wins… but this one was especially satisfying.
Well, the team was designed for Safeco.
Now I can play PS3 in peace
RR-S FTW
The sky is falling!
Oh, wait, I thought this was last week.
This is why we don’t make comments about dumping Cliff Lee when we open the season 2-6.
Can Ian Snell complete the cycle? Hope so.
Sweet win for the M’s. Good to see Ichiro getting into a groove.
WHAT A MAN! WHAT A GAME! WHAT A HIT!
Better yet, the Rangers lost (and have lost 3 in a row), so the M’s are now in 2nd place in the division.
