This probably won’t go as well as the last two days. Good luck, Hyphen – you’re going to need a lot of it.

OMG – Ms baserunning this season is sub-little league quality. With white-hot Bradley on deck, seriously, WTF was that?
C Kotchman grounds out to second.– End of inning.
R. Branyan singled to shallow right, J. Bard and I. Suzuki scored, R. Branyan out at second
– End of Inning (2 Runs, 2 Hits, 0 Errors)
Man, that Branyan trade is looking good right now, isn’t it? The FO ultimately got him at the bargain price they wanted, but the losses that piled up in the meantime weren’t cheap.
Aardsma? In the 8th? That is different.
It was Branyan trying to get in scoring position for the white-hot Bradley, with 2 outs.
Does this mean League and Aardsma have swapped roles temporarily?
Thus my lack of “good vibes” at the prospect of what we might receive in return. I think everyone is on the same page with you Ralph_Malph. He doesn’t provide much while here … and he probably won’t bring much back to us. His value may be in freeing up a spot for Ackley (ultimately); but in the more near term – who knows. I don’t want to get into additional Tui debates, but that would seem to be the logical AAA fill-in until a better option (i.e. an actual player with a working glove) could be acquired.
Fuck you A-Rod. Asshole.
And kept the throw from going home…
(oops, my jinks means- “why yes, indeed Aardsma has taken over League’s role of offering up the straight stuff”)
Not that much different…
Reason number whatever to hate ARod.
And yet — as the ball flies out — strangely the same.
(and mlathrop3 beat me to it)
And that’s why Lee and Felix pitch until their arms fall off…
I hate Aardsma
Is it wrong to think we should trade Aardsma to a team we have trouble beating, the week before we play them? Or at least to a team we play a lot in the 2nd half?
Ralph Malph
I’m not being reactionary to Lopez. I’ve poured over his stats the last few days and I’m not exaggerating when I say Lopezs’ approach has worsened the past 4 years. His 60+XBH the past two years was just enough production to make him a league average hitter. He has never posted a positive RAA, and his career high wRC+ is 102. This means he is average! His o-swing% is 34. His walk rate is lower than four years ago. He has never had an OBP that was above the league average, he tied the league average once for OBP……In fairness to Lopez he is a good fielding 3B (so far), his contact% rivals Ichiro for the team lead. But he has not altered his approach at all, this sounds exactly like Yuni Betancourt.
Another Gay Bomb for Gayrod!
Freaking Aardsma needs to develop another pitch because everyone is sitting on that high fastball this year.
Wow Milton going R vs R against the sandman? Interesting
Exactly!
Exactly!
Exactly!
Where’s Junior when you need him?!?!
(Joke… Just a joke… Sorry…)
Three thousand two hundred sixteen. I’ve been keeping track.
Good game … let’s take 3 out of 4 from them next week at Safeco.
Still give props to Branyan for the 2 runs…
And the lesson Girardi gave Wak on proper use of a Closer… (9th inning with a lead? Maybe? And with a real closer?)
To go back to my earlier point: Jones is still just 24, so it’s possible he’ll develop more power at the plate. His UZR numbers suggest he’s not as good in the field as we thought at the time, but that could still change too.
Yes, things worked out well with both Saunders and Guti, but we don’t know what the M’s would’ve done without Bedard; given how little he ultimately gave the M’s, whatever alternative starter they found might have given more value. And that’s even before we consider the rest of the people who were given up in that trade. Not to mention with Jones established in CF the Putz trade may have netted someone as valuable as Guti, just at a different position. Who knows what the M’s would look like then? (Who knows, indeed: if Bavasi had the sense not to do the Bedard trade, he might still have the job).
In any case, the fact remains that the M’s gave up a lot for Bedard, in a year when it was obvious to seemingly everyone other than Bavasi that they were more than a starting pitcher away from contending. I mean, consider that the M’s gave up considerably less for Cliff Lee than they did for Bedard.
But that was not really my point. My beef was against people who claimed at the time of the trade (and this is pretty much word for word) “Jones has had his chance and showed nothing” — after less than 150 PA. Likewise there was somebody a few days ago who complained about Saunders’ rookie “streakiness” because he had “a 2-3 night then lay a goose egg” — as if that never happens to Pujols or Mauer or Ichiro. It just seems like when it comes to rookies a lot of people have unrealistic expectations and are far too quick to write them off for performances they’d tolerate in anyone they’re more familiar with.
If we trade Lopie to the Phils can we get Dobber back?
Anybody know for sure if Bedard is throwin in Tacoma tonight? I can’t find any facts that tell me he is a guarantee go!
Good points Joser… And actually, who’s to say we don’t STILL get Guti, even with Jones on the roster… Adam in left, Guti in center, and Ichiro in right would have been a damn fine outfield. And a damn fine top of the order in any lineup out there.
Aardvark sucks!! Throw some damn breaking balls.
Well, the M’s have been lucky with bullpens the past few years; sometimes regression is a bitch. (Speaking of which — hey, regression, you can show up in the positive way for Lopez and Figgins anytime now)
The time to trade Aardsmas was last offseason, when his value was at its maximum. And a few people suggested it. Of course that would probably leave League as the closer (assuming in that case the M’s still did the Morrow-League trade). Then again, I’m not sure they result would be all that different (in fact, given the variability of relievers, it’s quite possible League would’ve been a lights-out closer this season — especially if he wasn’t worried about his catcher dropping the best pitch in baseball)
Do you think Z learns from the last 2 years, and starts leveraging folks’ love of the fastball to unload 2nd year 94+ mph pitchers?
I think we’re seeing with our bullpen that until folks figure out the movement of a hard throwing hurler’s fastball, he can be pretty dominant. But if he’s using it over 50% of the time, against the same opponents over and over again, his dominance has a short shelf life equal to the opponents’ learning curve.
We should have a “buddy system” with a NL team, and trade a crop of fastballers back and forth, season to season… (Sound silly on the surface, but…??? Hmmm…)
Thank you Joser….Gutierrez was acquired a year after Jones was traded. The only connection is Ichiro is best suited in RF and that left CF open because Jones wasn’t here. I agree Jones has a higher offensive upside than Guti and jones is younger. We also lost Sherill and Mickolio which would be better in the pen than B.Sweeney or Sean “the White flag.” That trade created so many holes they are still trying to recover that lost talent. Tillman is still a baby and has a higher upside than most of the M’s current staff. I hate Bavasi more than any player, coach or FO personnel that has preceded him.
Jack Z if you didn’t know the Reds have Bavasi in their FO. So take advantage of a known moron and anyone willing to hire him.
Some one was brave enough to hire Bavasi?
Ruhtards.
I have a question – does anyone know what Wak was thinking when he IBB’d Cano in the 6th? (2 out, down 0-2, A-Rod on 2nd, RRS still in, Posada on deck)… was it a concession that the team can’t score 4 runs, so he figured he’d walk Posada also, and focus on Granderson? That’s how it worked out (with the “unintentional” intentional walk), but I was pretty baffled at the time. Thanks.
