Game 84, Royals at Mariners

Fister vs Davies, 7:10 pm.
The last few times out, Fister has struggled. We knew this was coming eventually, as his skillset just doesn’t support ace-like results. But, still, could get a little positive regression from the underachievers at around the same time that the overachievers take a step backwards? I’m looking at you, Figgins and Lopez. Hit better.
Ichiro, RF
Figgins, 2B
Branyan, DH
Lopez, 3B
Gutierrez, CF
Kotchman, 1B
Saunders, LF
Johnson, C
Josh Wilson, SS

Anyone else see that Yuni has hit for more power than both of our SS combined? Ouch. And damn Im hapy with Fister man. I really hope he can get back to dominating with bad stuff. Its great to watch. The hitters on the other team must be so mad when they get out against him and his mediocre stuff.
I’m not watching but was that really a wild pitch or did RoJoke screw it up again?
Josh Wilson is having a dramatic dropoff. Soon he’ll be hitting .220 with the rest of the lineup =(
Baaahahahaha! Yuni FTW!
But we don’t have to look at his shitty field play anymore. Except lovely moments like this.
Our 9 million 2b again, what a shame!!
On the Rojo replay, if Rojo makes a good throw, Yuni out by a yard.
2 times Lopez!!! 6 runners stranded. Yay!!!
I want to make a prediction. Branyan will hit like two homers the rest of the way. not because he is a bad player or won’t hit for power but because why would anyone pitch to him with Lopez right behind him? He’s going to get the record for intentional walks this year.
Why not put Saunders in the 3rd spot and Branyan as a clean up hitter, JoLopez could be a 6 or 7 batter, cleanup hitter not!!! Is the worst cleanup hitter in the mayors!!
League for Morrow trade is looking badddd. Figgins signing is looking baddd. Maybe Jack Z. isn’t all what he’s talked up to be. The Putz for Guti and Vargas was nice so far but…
And League’s got that same expression that Sweeney had. What can Johnson be saying? “You know Felix and Cliff love me, right?”
“He couldn’t afford another walk…”
Oh, as opposed to a three run homer?
Man, if there were a room in my house that was under 75 degrees, I would be going to bed after that.
Screw Catchers, Hitters, and other prospects.. Trade Lee for a new bullpen please!
There’s not a single trustworthy arm in the entire bullpen at this time, and, yes, the Morrow for League trade is looking really bad.
you kinda have to give League a break guys. Seriously a pitcher with nasty stuff and RoJoke? I’m amazed that he doesn’t just lob the ball up underhanded so he doesn’t have to worry about another passed ball.
And Olson’s no bullpen arm.
This is the most uninspired group of players I’ve ever seen.
“Well we’re losing, might as well shut it down for the night to prevent injury”
When your team’s giving up against the Royals, well… I’m not sure why you shouldn’t give up on your team.
Can someone, anyone, a sabermatrician, perhaps, explain to me how the M’s get swept at home by KC? I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this is a team that cannot visualize success.
Walking the first two batters and giving up a three-run dinger is about as bad as it gets.
At this point, I almost wish Brandon
AyalaLeague would change careers and go into MMA…Then, I could *almost* enjoy watching him get his butt kicked night after night. >:(
Because, instead of “success,” they can only visualize suck.
Colorado scored nine in the ninth last night. I guess there’s always hope. After all, the Dutch are in the semifinals of the World Cup.
Sorry I meant finals…if anybody is still out there…
No, I don’t, really. I can’t even remember Ayala, Slocumb, or Mesa blowing this many holds or saves in a row.
Okay, fair enough point there. But then again, I guess Wak doesn’t understand the concept of a late-game defensive change at the catching position.
The bullpen has really killed us this year. And there’s no injury excuse since Lowe was just as bad as the others before he got hurt and left. Need a clean slate.
And freaking Figgins and Lopez. And Kotchman except for today.
These bums have really killed our chances to compete this year that the other players have been working hard to create.
Yes…and Go Orange!!!
Branyan will hit a home run if Chone doesn’t #$%$ it up by grounding into a double play
Figgy for the GDP
As someone pointed out above, is there any possibility that League isn’t throwing his most nasty pitch because Rob Johnson can’t freaking catch it? This is really fucked up.
Wow, Figgins didn’t hit into another rally kiling double play, that’s new. He made an out, of course, but no GIDP. Wow.
Amazing, Figgins is now on the M’s and I still wish the guy would just go away. Think the Reds will trade Brandon Phillips?
Right now, I’m hoping that if the Brewers wind up being a player in the Cliff Lee sweepstakes, they’ll throw in Trevor Hoffman as part of the deal…
I know he might be a hundred years old these days, but he isn’t doing anything but set-up work for Milwaukee at the moment — and he could probably still show these schmucks in our sorry bullpen a thing or two about pitching in tight situations.
Scott19 you have a short memory. Then again, that must be required for all of us to be fans of this franchise. I still remember how Mesa blew our first game in Safeco and everyone thought “of course.” Yeah League and AArdsma have done horrible this year but at least its in a season that was lost no matter what they did. With those bastards that you mentioned we had multiple HOFers on our team and had a chance to be special and they imploded it for us.
But yeah, I hate this team that we have right now.
So do we really need to start rebuilding amidst a rebuilding process? Won’t that create some sort of black hole in the universe?
Could we start having daily Tacoma Rainiers game threads here? The Rainiers just finished a four-game sweep on the road of the Angels’ AAA affiliate Salt Lake Bees and they have gained a 6-game separation in first place of their division. It feels so good. I just salivate at the thought of the Mariners gaining a six-game separation in the standings over the Angels after sweeping them. Following a pennant race in AAA is funner than following the Mariners when 16 games behind in the standings. The Rainiers have also won 8 games in a row and are now 48-38 on their season.
I’m down GoMariners. This pro team sucks.
I was there tonight (the men’s group at our church makes a point of getting to one game a year; at this rate, I figure it’ll save me some time in Purgatory). A few points that bothered me:
1) After the Callaspo homer, the fans started making their way toward the exits. I’m sorry, but this I cannot abide. Yes, League didn’t have it tonight. Yes, our offense has been bad. It’s only a two-run deficit. The way I was raised as a baseball fan, you never, ever leave a game early. This is baseball; anything can (and usually does) happen.
The faith has been beaten out of this fanbase.
2) After the homer, fans were booing (understandably), but the boos got louder as League walked off the field. I certainly support the right of fans to voice their displeasure, but I can’t join them; I think it’s counterproductive. Pitchers, especially relievers, are trained to have a short memory–for things that happen on the mound. Everything else, however…they’re still human beings.
The fact that he gave up a 3-run, game-losing homer won’t stick with Brandon. The fact that he got booed might. (Again, fans can do what they want; I just don’t think booing your own player does anything positive.)
End ramble. Just had to get it off my chest; I started brewing this comment after the Olson homer.
At least you were with the right group tonight, overbored. Perhaps that’s why you could keep a level head. 😀
But I agree. I can’t bring myself to boo our own players.
I can’t boo our own players (exception for Bobby Ayala, of course). But the fans were certainly justified with League tonight. He did nothing right. Of course, not scoring with runners on second and third and one out, the offense wasn’t exactly clicking either. I feel so much like 1985 or so, when the only reason to go to the game or watch or listen to a game was the pure love of baseball. And for that, one can certainly follow the Rainiers or the Aquasox instead.
Went over each box score this year with League pitching and got these #’s. Hope I didn’t mess up it’s 1am 🙂 (posted it on another site also but makes more sense to post it here)
League’s #’s with Rob Johnson Catching and with out.
IP H R ER BB SO HR
With 24 1/3IP 26H 21R 16ER 11BB 12SO 5HR
w/o 18 2/3IP 13H 5R 3ER 2BB 20SO 1HR
Not that you needed more reason to hate Rob Johnson… but I don’t think it’s all Brandon’s fault.
Maybe it should stick with him more, so that he would start throwing his best pitch more often, and generally be mixing up his pitch selection more. (Although this could be fucking Rob Johnson’s fault, as pointed out very nicely above!)
His best pitch will also get hit once in a while, even though some people have shown it was the most unhittable pitch in the majors last year, but he gots to be mixing it in more.
I don’t blame the fans for booing. Although they could also be booing Figgins and Lopez more for hitting so lousily this year.
But yeah, I agree of course that booing doesn’t help realistically, but the fans need to express themselves somehow.
And I got a question about Casey Kotchman. If the M’s getting the Muscle fired him up and he finally starts hitting now that he’s in danger of losing (lost) his starting job, what the heck was he doing before?
Sucking.
Sucking badly.
Or, how about, maybe he was taking hitting lessons from Lopez?
Given the track record of utter disaster with the League-RoJo battery this year, I honestly don’t know why Wak does not put Bard into the game when League comes in. At least maybe he wouldn’t be afraid to throw his supposedly much-vaunted splitter if Bard was behind the plate…plus, it’s not as if Wak would be losing a ton of offense with that switch.
On a related note, Softy Mahler on KJR is just absolutely ripping these guys a new one at the moment — and no one seems to be safe from his wrath.
