Pineda Starts Tonight In T-Town

The Tacoma Rainiers are playing at Cheney Stadium tonight. Michael Pineda is pitching. That’s all you really need to know, but you can also expect to get a look at Dustin Ackley, Justin Smoak, and Adam Moore. It would be more fun than watching the M’s even if the big league club was playing, which they aren’t.

So, get thee to Tacoma. And if you can’t get thyself there, listen to ye old radio at 7:00. Mike Curto will have the call on 850 AM.

Update: Adam Moore probably won’t be playing tonight, as Shannon Drayer reports that he’ll join the team tomorrow. Rob Johnson (!) will be optioned to Triple-A to clear room on the roster.

    Darn end of season BBQ with the kids I coach. Can’t even DVR it since it isn’t on TV.

    I envy those able to go.

    What is the best way to get tickets to the Rainiers? I looked through milb.com and could only find access to the reserved seats, is there a way to get the field level club seats on a game by game basis?

    And a tip of the hat to Curto – his blog is fantastic. For the first time ever, I feel like I know as much about the Rainiers as I do about the Mariners. Well, OK, this year it’s a blurry line at best, but still.

    He does a great job of not just describing the games, but doling out a slice of life in AAA. For those of you that haven’t checked it out yet, it’s the “Mike… Off Mic” link on the right.

    I agree. This is one of the last things that I expected.

    It can’t be because they don’t like RoJo any more. Does Bard have compromising photos of JZ with Chuck Armstrong? Are they trying to tell Felix that RoJo won’t be his caddy next year, so get used to it now? Surely they don’t think it will improve his hitting. Do they want him to work with Pineda? No, I am grasping at straws now.

    It’s not that complicated – they want them both to play everyday. That’s why Moore has been in Tacoma, not Seattle.

    I’m wondering if Felix was the last hold-out in the RJ bandwagon, and after these performances with Bard behind the plate, Felix has realized Rob’s ultimate lack of value.

    Wait a minute – you don’t mean to suggest that when Wakamatsu was starting Josh Bard 4 games out of 5 last week, that communicated to the front office he had exhausted his belief system in Rob Johnson, and instead of forcing Wakamatsu to play the guy, they supported their manager by doing what he wanted and swapping Johnson out for somebody he might actually use?

    Well, at least RoJo can go be a terrible player in AAA now, and we can see if Adam Moore can be more than a complete disaster at the MLB level, since we already have plenty of evidence in Johnson’s case.

    From Drayer’s report, sounds like Johnson is taking it with a lot of class. Can’t be easy to be so close and have it slip away. Best of luck to him.
