Is Saunders hurt?
Has to be.
This pitching matchup was custom built for Josh Lewin: Lethster vs Fifthster
Well we pretty much half of the comments from last game already pregame. Should be fun watching Lester dominate. Here’s to Ichiro getting 3 hits to pretty much gurantee another 200 season.
Because there’s no way a Mariner’s manager would do something completely irrational?
I refuse to watch unless these criteria are met
1) King Felix is pitching and
2) Saunders, Moore AND Tui are playing.
There are no mentions of any Saunders issues from any of the beat writers (that I’ve found, anyway).
I think this is just another clueless move from Mr. Brown. You can’t replace the veterans unless they really need a day off, no matter how pointless the games and no matter how poorly the veteran performs. So when Tui plays, Saunders doesn’t; and when Saunders plays, Tui doesn’t – cuz Lopez and Kotchman are VETERANS.
And frankly, I doubt Z is paying a whole lot of attention right now to say “hey, play the guys who may be part of our future”. He’s probably updating his resumé and ducking HowChuck’s phone calls.
I won’t be watching tonight. I don’t know how much I’ll be watching the rest of the season. When the Rainiers run ends, I honestly don’t believe Brown will play Smoak or anyone else all that much, unless a veteran stubs his toe. Except RoJo – Brown will play RoJo, I’m pretty certain.
Figgins, just stay down there. Save your energy.
Ha, we’re staying down in Oregon – and my wife goes and turns on the game on the television. Go figure; I guess I’m watching after all (unless one of her hospital shows comes on).
I’m only partially paying attention – but up until Tui came to bat, it looksed to me like just about everyone was swinging at the first pitch (and usually grounding out).
So much for trying to make Lester work…
Then Moore tried to ground out on the first pitch – but he missed.
Given the reasoning behind the “quality start” concept – I think Mariners’ pitchers need to use a different definition. After all, giving up three runs in six innings does NOT realistically give the Mariners a decent chance to win.
I think a Mariners’ quality start needs to be one run or less in six innings.
Yes, Mike, Lopez was aggressive and got a hit. How about mentioning how the aggressive approach led him to grounding out on one pitch and striking out his other two at bats?
The announcers don’t even sound disappointed anymore that they don’t score more than a run.
OMG, did you all (four of us) just hear that!? Freaking Pink Pony Bloomie’s going to get a shot at the World Series!
There is no justice in the world. None.
Yeah, I saw that on ESPN a bit ago – but I believe he’s ineligible for the playoffs since it’s September.
WHY WASN’T LOPEZ RUNNING???
He could have been SAFE at second!!
Mike Blowers is an idiot. Ugh. “Nothing Lopez could do…” – if he’d been RUNNING, he’d be safe at second and there’d only be one out!
I love the M’s, but man I don’t give a damn about this team.
Felix isn’t getting the Cy Young cause his teammates suck nuts and they’re probably looking at losing 97 games or so, if not 100.
I’d rather watch Tulalip Casino commercials than this crap.
The first 4 batters, OK, I wouldn’t be ecstatic that we got nobody but Guti to hit in cleanup but I would be cool with this lineup next year (considering they probably aren’t going to spend money, but then again, why the heck not? If they had coughed up a little more we could have had Safeco killer Vlad in the lineup this year. Fuck it. Yeah I know he didn’t want to come here but money talks)
if we had something else than utterly dead replacement level wood in #5 to #9.
And I know we need patience with Tui, Moore, Saunders but they’ve looked pretty terrible. Moore and Saunders especially. Are they really showing any signs of learning/improving?
And probably trotting Lopez and Kotchman out there every day are really giving bad examples of hitting to the young players. Or does that not matter? I’m really looking forward to seeing the last of Lopez, especially. Is Z requiring that Lopez be played? I can’t help suspecting that Wak wanted to bench Lopez for his fuckups but Z interfered, like he didn’t allow Figgins to be disciplined also. If Lopez is another Z favorite (like Jack Wilson, etc.) we’re in big trouble.
Vlad…or Thome…or Matsui…
It’s a lock they lose over a hundred games. Count it.
But hey, in ex-Mariner news…..
