This season was horrible. You were better than ever.
Thanks for everything, Felix.
Oh, and Mr. Brown – the fans deserve a chance to say thanks on the last day of the season. One inning on Sunday won’t kill him. Let him have the standing ovation. It will be a good moment in a season that had none.

Indeed. Finally got to see my first Felix-pitched M’s game in person this year. A fine show it was.
And thanks too to Jack Zduriencik for locking Felix up prior to this crappy season!
The rational, responsible side of me wants this to be Felix’s last start; however, the greedy, selfish side of me wants him to pitch one more game so I can watch him one more time this season.
Either way, it was a pleasure to see him pitch this year!

I hope the voters see Felix’s value, but I’m not very sanguine about his chances after seeing the luddites on Baseball Tonight unanimously vote for CC. All of them cited his W/L record and an alleged tougher schedule for CC and Price. Even a cursory look at CC, Price and Felix’s performances shows this is complete nonsense. Against the four playoff bound AL teams and Boston (roughly toughest lineups), CC is 3-2 with 2 NDs, Price is 4-3 with 3 NDs, and Felix is 7-4 with 1 ND, and three of Felix’s four losses were against Texas. Against NYY, TB and Boston, Felix is 4-0.
Ideally, they’d get Felix in there for a cheap win like they did way back when Randy Johnson got his first 20-win season. I think that would drive the point home.
Too bad it would be nearly impossible for this team to build a huge lead after four innings.
Dave’s suggestion would be a good move by the Mariners, if Felix doesn’t make his regular start.
Sure innings are a real concern, and he could hurt his Cy Young resume with a bad start (Drayer said he could only “hurt his case”). But why not pitch one inning? That would be classy if he got a chance to be recognized.
BTW – What bonus does Felix get for winning the Cy?
I loved Randy Johnson and Jamie Moyer, but Felix Hernandez is in his own league among Mariners.
Few other Seattle pitchers have displayed such passion for the game and undying love for the team. Even in this excruciating season with our collective hair coming out in clumps, we could still savor each and every Felix start.
He also deserves a whole lot of credit for growing from a promising young ace to a leader in such a short period of time. I hope that one day soon our King will have a goofy champagne soaked grin and a big soggy hug for all of his teammates.
Can he start Fridays game too? It would be a throw day, and an ideal way to celebrate Fan Appreciation Day.

He should pitch on 5 days rest, because… Fuck you David Pauley. I don’t want to see you pitch. Your parents would rather see Felix pitch. Hell, you’d rather see Felix pitch then you.
What would be really sad is if the M’s didn’t pitch Felix on Sunday, and went on to lose their 100th game. Man, you’d totally feel like a dick, Daren. Don’t be a dick.
(My apologies for this post. I had a rough day, and it would make my year if Felix pitched Sunday.)
You know, I had zero interest in seeing the M’s on this weekend’s homestand. Not only is the season about as lost as any can be, they’re playing the team I least like to watch (or even root against): the A’s. I got the Mariners ticketing email yesterday and immediately deleted it with a rueful shake of my head.
But if Felix is going to appear, even if it’s for one inning and an ovation, I may change my mind. It hadn’t occurred to me that Felix might pitch, and that changes everything. I’m not buying anything in advance, but if they announce him as the starter, even as a token, I may go down and buy a seat out in LF.
You hear that, Mariners? There’s one way, one way, to get me to pay for a seat.
Make it so.
I say let him pitch long enough to surpass Weaver (who will presumably lead him at that time) in strikeouts and let him leave to a standing ovation.
You guys are effing drunk. Shut him down and keep him shut down until January. Repeat after me, “if he hasn’t already wrapped up the Cy Young, then it’s just not worth it…just not worth it.” Kid’s had enough.
After watching Strasburg’s arm blow up this season, I’m hyper-paranoid about Felix’ arm. I think both Wak and Brown let him pitch too many innings in a season that was over for the Ms by mid-June. As much as I want him to win a Cy Young, I want more for him to have a long and successful career with the Ms, with many more chances to get the award he deserves this year, regardless of whether he pitches Sunday.
I don’t think Felix is ever going to have arm trouble. He hasn’t even had a hint of ANYTHING go wrong with his arm his entire career (if i’m not mistaken)
I think a one inning outing would be more classy, and better to watch than a full start however.

As for The King, I’d LOVE to see him come in for a save opportunity. He’d probably get a kick out of it too – to come out of the bullpen with a BA song on the PA and the explosion of the fans! Think JJ in ’07 but about twice as loud.

In a season full of disappointments, how cool would it be to see Felix come out and throw a perfect ninth for his first major league save on Sunday — and help the M’s somehow avoid the 100-loss mark?! 🙂
Felix pitching the 9th would be my favorite situation regarding him on Sunday. Winning or losing, it doesn’t matter, would be fun to see, and who knows, he could get a save. Felix getting a save would be ridiculously fun.
Agreed w/Dave. One inning won’t do anything to his arm or his stats. Let him pitch the first and then come out very slowly and pull him before the first pitch of the second. And make sure he knows to walk slowly back to the dugout. Let the fans show their love for an unbelievable season for the King. And let him know how much it was appreciated.

Make Felix the starting DH, and then put him on the mound for the ninth so he can save the win he helped bring about with his eighth-inning three-run blast.

I don’t know about starting DH, but it would be hilarious to see him pinch hit late in the game. Get the based loaded then bring in the King.

IF, and only if, Felix makes some sort of appearance– if even to walk out the lineup card before the game.
He deserves my renewed dedication. Just being a Cy Young finalist, on this colossally bad team. And the funny thing is, first half of the season, he wasn’t even the best pitcher on his own team!? Yet he never let up, and only got better as the season progressed (much like last year).
Thanks for what you did in 2010, Felix. I don’t want that to get lost in the huge pile of dog ____ we saw this year.
Thanks groundzero55, that made my morning. I think the best part of that clip is the grin on his face, and the wink he gives just after taking his helmet off.
Hell get one out, I just want to see the King pitch on a day in which the season has been god awful. Let the fans get one more look at the best pitcher in the AL. Let him join an elite group in Mariners history by throwing 250 IP. If Felix has any say in the matter, he wants to throw the whole game.
Let the man pitch whether it’s for one out or 7 innings. Let the man finish what he started.

I say don’t get cute and shut him down. Maybe an inning. That is it!
I’m torn on that. Doesn’t Felix currently have a pretty ridiculously long streak of getting into the 7th inning? I’d hate to see that string snapped, just to see him for an inning. On the other hand, if they wanted to let him go for the sole purpose of racking up a couple strikeouts to surpass or tie Weaver, which should be very do-able in a couple innings if Felix is focusing on it, unless Weaver has an incredible game; then I’d be all for it. It seems like leading baseball in innings pitched, strikeouts, and ERA would pretty well lock the Cy Young award for him, even among the old school thinkers. As it stands, it looks like he’s got two of those locked. But I’d personally like to see him get the third too.
I would like to see the smooth delivery and laid-back demeanor one last time. It’s just too easy for the King. He’s a horse, he’ll be fine, let’s all go out on top.
Ideally, the Mariners would have a lead after the 4th inning, Felix would enter for an inning or two and then end up with a “vulture” win. Lord knows he has had enough potential wins taken away from him, so why not get a cheap “W.” The little Leprechaun won the award with 15 wins last season for the Giants, so why not Felix with 14 wins. There are a lot of potential voters leaning toward the new metrics. Ideally, we would also find a way to get through this season and still end up with next years 2nd pick in the draft. Ending upwith either the best hitting prospect or the best pitching prospect is a good position to be in (from a draft perspective). Let’s not catch Baltimore, but let’s get Felix another “W” some kind of way.

If they go down on the first two to Oakland, it would be nice to have him pitch the last one, not only just to have one last view of him this year… but because it’s their last best shot at not hitting 100 losses (minor detail, at this point… but…).
You could bring Felix out on Sunday to pitch to one batter, just for the ovation. More than that, I dunno.
Felix was a beacon in a very, very dark season. Felix deserves some sort of recognition, if only for his lack of dispair with this historically pathetic offense.
