Eric Wedge To Be Mariners Manager

And just like that, the pieces have fallen into place. Jon Heyman says that the Mariners have settled on Eric Wedge to be their next manager. They won’t be able to officially announce it until they get clearance from the commissioner’s office, given that the ALCS starts tonight, but I’d expect them to get some kind of okay in the next few days. Expect a press conference next week.

I’m utterly flummoxed that anyone (with the possible exception of Eric Wedge’s close personal relations, and possibly Milton Bradley) could develop a strong opinion, positive or negative, about this particular development.
djw: don’t forget Indians fans.
this had the full quote
Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia came up with Wedge through Cleveland’s farm system. Sabathia said Wedge made him a better player.
“He was a tough guy to please,” Sabathia said. “He always seemed to find something wrong with what I did, so it made me a lot tougher in not being satisfied and making sure that I was working hard and trying to get better every day.”

re: Hargrove
“With his team on a seven-game streak, 11 games above .500, Seattle manager Mike Hargrove quit today…”
He quit on us when we were winning… And in some people’s minds, more importantly, Ichiro doesn’t like him. Next.
(Tell me you weren’t on the Bobby V bandwagon… In 15 years he had the same number of 90+ win seasons as Eric Wedge has… 2.)
You’re missing my point. It’s not that we should hire Hargrove. It’s that Wedge’s credentials aren’t really any more impressive than Hargrove’s.
I’ll put it this way- I don’t have much evidence that swapping out Wak for Wedge is anything more than a lateral move. The problem with the organization is the unending churn in managers, pitching coaches, etc., that hasn’t really been fixed by Jack Zduriencik’s hiring. As Ichiro puts it, we’re not at the root of the tree yet.

I don’t think I entirely missed your point… Maybe you made it poorly? You suggested a guy who had already quit on this team once was as good of a choice…
Maybe you’re missing my point? Whether they mean anything to a team or not, you have to hire a manager. We hired the top guy out there (in the opinion of Z, the Mets, the Pirates, and the Cubs). What’s so disappointing about that? That’s what I don’t get…
Or to be more precise… Who do YOU consider a better choice, and why?

Forget everything above that I said, I had to point out that the Lookout Landing post about Wedge being manager might be the funniest blog comments section I’ve ever read, and I wanted to give you props for your participation there (and Jeff too)… With the majority of the postings concerning “what can be considered a pun” and why, and those all backed with a healthy dose of “how to show indifference on the internet, both with and without using ‘meh’ in your posting”…
Seriously, some of the funniest stuff I’ve ever read.
Well, allrighty then.
MRZ if your telling us that the front office fired Hargrove because Ichiro did not like him then your proofing our point that Chuck and Howie suck and are pretty much poision to this organazation. Letting the players tell you what to do wow if im Wedge i run and run now i don’t want anything to do with this team if other teams are interested.
Waks going to go somewere and be a very good manager for years to come he was just the scapegoat for everything that went wrong that wasn’t even his fault.
