Cactus League Game 11, M’s at Dodgers
RF Ichiro!
3B Figgins
CF Gutierrez
DH Cust
1B Kennedy
2B Jack Wilson
LF Saunders
C Bard
SS Josh Wilson
P Fister
A lineup without Gabe Gross and Sean Kazmar? This seems improbable to me but I’m sure that they can fix it later. Pauley, League, Olson, Cortes, Ring, Ray, Roe, and Paredes are possibilities for pitching later in the game.
The game notes inform me that the upcoming rotation is Bedard, Pineda, and Blake Beaven. If they are to be believed, we’ll have radio feeds on Friday and Saturday. If you have MLB Network, then this particular game will be broadcast at 8 pm.
Yesterday was just the second spring training shutout we’ve had since ’94, according to Greg Johns. And we have a winning record! Savor every moment.

Mariners had runners on 1st and 3rd, no outs. Guess how many runs they scored in the inning?
Six? It must have been a lot, because I heard they chased Jon Garland. /sarcasm
Oh, sure, there’s Bedard and Pineda on tap tomorrow, but the one they broadcast is today’s Fister matchup against the Dodgers. Goddamn pandering to large market teams, that’s what it is. All those Dodger fans with their dirty, dirty moolah….
Jack Wilson hits a home run. The Dodgers announcer goes, “anything can happen!”
Lol Jon Huber on the mound right now. Always fun seeing failed ex-Mariner relievers
Liddi with a grand salami. Nice to see some offense.
M’s with 9 runs on 11 hits, in the 8th.
This basically looks like Wedge’s “A” team, but I wonder about Saunders in LF. I hope it is due to merit.
If Bradley has become healthy and productive again, shouldn’t he be the default LF, or at least be in the running for the starting job?
If Saunders can snap out of the entitlement funk or whatever caused him to play so terribly last year, then he can steal away the job from Bradley, but I’m not sure just entitling him to the job (if that is what it is) is a good idea.
If Wedge and crew like what they see in him then OK. I just hope they don’t waste Bradley. Although he’s undependable he has shown himself to be pretty good when going well.
Sorry, I read now that Bradley had court business today and wasn’t available.
So maybe Bradley is indeed the default LF, and Saunders has to work hard and show results to try stealing the starting job away from him.
Personally I wouldn’t call out Saunders for his 2010 performance woes, given that most of the rest of the team sucked as well – and most of them were veterans.
Bradley hasn’t shown that he can consistently play the field and stay healthy. At least based on what Wedge said on the Cactus League Report he’s looking at Bradley as the starting left fielder – but I’m of the mind that a) that will affect Bradley’s health and thus hurt his overall offensive performance; and b) that will probably be deleterious to Saunders’ development too. We’re not going to compete this year, so in my mind making Saunders ride the pine AGAIN in deference to an aging veteran is a mistake.
Jack Z made it clear that guys like Moore and Saunders would have to earn their playing time this year — for better or worse. It would really help Saunders to hit the ball a little in ST.
I’m watching the M’s on DVR–with a Newcastle in hand. And I know the M’s win! This is a nice evening…I only wish Smoak, and Ackley played.
