Cactus League Game 30, M’s at Rockies
Just one more of these after this one and we’re home free.
SS Ryan
2B Kennedy
1B Smoak
DH Cust
C Olivo
CF Langerhans
3B Luis Rodriguez
RF Saunders
LF James McOwen
P Fister
This is a new lineup! McOwen ran off an amazing hit streak two years ago and then dislocated his shoulder early last season and was benched throughout. It’s nice to see him get out there and play. Tomorrow, it’s probably going to be a bunch of guys like him on the field late in the game.
News came out that Franklin Gutierrez will be beginning the season on the DL. Since it’s going to be a retroactive placement, he’ll be eligible to come off on April 6th, though at this stage, we seem to have little idea of what’s going on and what it might take to get him into playing shape.
I’m getting on a Wilhelmsen post which will end up below this one when I’m finished. Edit: hey look, it’s here

I like this lineup from a pure novelty perspective. I mean, if Ichiro isn’t there to lead off — go nuts! Plus the 2-3-4 is actually kind of solid, from a recent-M’s-history perspective. Drops off pretty damn fast from there, though.
Yes, enjoying M’s baseball is all about adopting the right perspective.
“I’m at the bottom of a pit!”
“Yeah, but doesn’t it make that little patch of sky look nice?”
Hey it’s televised (FSN)!
Er, looks like my Tivo is calling it “RTNW” now – I hate that “ROOT Sports” moniker…
I wish they’d start Bedard, I’d like to see him.
“ROOT” — like what you find under a pile of compost.
RTNW — R Team’s Not Winning…
Ugh, I have this ominous foreboding that watching Olivo behind the plate is going to be as painful as watching RoJo was.
I really hope Moore forces his way into the primary catcher role this year.
We scored a lot of runs in an inning that no one apparently cared about.
Sorry, Jay, I’m a bit behind realtime. My Olivo comment was while he was behind the plate at the bottom of the second.
Offensively he’s not reminding me of RoJo, fortunately.
Ooh, just saw Langerhans triple!
Wow, Rodriguez is tiny!
I’m following on gameday, so I’m not sure what the tape delay is.
The delay isn’t ROOT’s doing – I’m watching on my Tivo (while also trying to work) and started late.
I’m *almost* caught up now though. 😀
CUST!!
Oh man, listening to this Rockies’ announcer makes me appreciate our guys more.
I didn’t realize Sean White was a local boy.
Are teams other than the Mariners this prone to blindness when it comes to local kids and their relative lack of talent? I’m glad he’s with the Rockies now, in any case.
They all don’t lack talent…just the ones we get.
We pass on the good ones, like Tim Lincecum. What would our rotation look like with Lincy and Felix at the top?
Look at what we well have……Felix, Pineda, Paxson, Cole and Vargas
We don’t have Cole yet, and may not.
If we do draft Cole, how amazing would our rotation look like if we also were able to sign Yu Darvish (who bulked up over the off season and looks even more AMAZING so far in preseason)? We would potentially have a starting rotation of Felix, Pineda, Darvish, Cole, and Vargas by 2013.
Edit: Felix, Pineda, Darvish, Paxton, Cole
That’s 10 years of dominance.
So yeah, M’s management… PLEAAAAASE do whatever you can to sign Darvish!
OK, hopefully this is a good place to ask this. MLB Gameday Audio is $19.99 PER YEAR. Now that I have my Netbook and my TV is in storage, is there any reason not to get that? (I know some people had problems with the more expensive video but this isn’t much of an outlay.)
I haven’t had any problems with the Gameday Audio – it’s quite nice if you aren’t always in a spot where a TV or radio is available (such as at work).
Does Gameday Audio have any blackout issues?
That would be the Yu Darvish of the scary high pitch counts?
(Yeah, I know that’s normal for Japan. I don’t think that makes it less scary.)
