Game 11, Blue Jays At Mariners
Doing my weekly 5:15 radio spot with Toby Howell at 1510 KGA in Spokane. You can listen live here.
Romero vs Pineda, 7:10 pm.
The Safeco Field debut of Michael Pineda takes place tonight, and the M’s actually have a chance to put together back to back wins. Needless to say, it’d be nice to see the M’s run away with one early and cruise to an easy victory, but against a quality lefty like Romero, I’d call that pretty unlikely.
M’s run out a different looking line-up tonight. Figgins is out with the bruised thumb, and his absence gives Wedge a chance to reward Luis Rodriguez with a start at third base. The struggling Jack Cust sits with an LHP on the mound, but because of the way the M’s roster is arranged, he’s just replaced by another LH bat. Even getting Gutierrez back eventually won’t change the team’s need for a right-hander who can spell Cust at DH from time to time, either playing there himself or by playing left field and shifting Bradley to DH.
Ichiro, RF
Wilson, 2B
Bradley, DH
Olivo, C
Smoak, 1B
Rodriguez, 3B
Saunders, LF
Ryan, SS
Langerhans, CF

Take that, Canada.
League make me nervous…
SWEET!
WOO HOO!
Parrotfish locks it down!
Nice. Nice for Michael. Nice to shut up Blue Jays fans.
Were going to the playoffs!
Uhm, 3 runs isn’t really “nice”, Michael.
3 runs is what we like to call “below average”.
Great ending.
Out of curiosity, anyone have attendance figures?
Wow, the right League showed up tonight. And Pineda gets his win. Now tomorrow at noon… sweep?
Smoak is not a good interviewee. Seems like a good guy though.
14, 528 in Safeco tonight.
Nine. Seven of them were bored Canucks fans waiting for the playoffs to start.
So, Langerhans is the M’s offense this year? Despite the big winning streak, I’m still a bit nervous.
Man, in the aftergame interview with Shannon on the radio, Smoak sounds like that guy on “King of the Hill” who always speaks in mumbles.
What year were we awesome in the 8th inning? Was that the same year as ” two outs, so what?”
Yeah….tie this game with last night’s game and the home opener….and we’re gonna have a very interesting season.
And the year before “two outs, never mind”.
I seem to remember that from 2001.
I even remember a comic in the P-I that showed the score keeper changing all the innings to the 8th.
I could be hallucinating something.
Boomhower! (sp?) And my brother and I said the EXACT same thing.
While we’re still working on the concept of being a GOOD team, we have some cool nicknames for our players:
King Felix, The Condor, Smoakstack, Boardgame and my vote goes to “Tiny” or “Stilts” for Pineda.
I think our lineup managing to get three runs against Ricky Romero is pretty darn “nice”.
Although I do keep wanting to call him Ricky Ricardo.
What can we come up with for Bradley?
– Nuclear
– Blow Up (works in a film reference too)
– ‘Plugs (short for “earplugs”)
– Voices (as in “the voices in his head”)
Shucks, Westside..”Boardgame” was my nickname for Bradley. I also contemplated the idea of naming him “3…2…1…”.
*Palm of hand* -> *Middle of Forehead*
Can I dope-slap myself?
Ugh… I can’t believe that one managed to sail right by me. And I even copied it in the quote! I’m sorry about that!
Anyway, it’s great!
Micheal Wineda!
