Game 41, Twins At Mariners
Hernandez vs Liriano, 7:10 pm.
Happy Felix Day!
A year ago, this would have been a fantastic match-up, but right now, Francisco Liriano is a shell of what he was. He’s not throwing strikes, he’s not getting strikeouts, and he’s been one of the worst pitchers in the American League. There’s talent there, but if the M’s let him get himself in trouble, he probably will. Patience is a virtue tonight.
Also, Geoff Baker suggests that Dustin Ackley is not coming up tomorrow. While he doesn’t have any direct quotes from team officials, he’s in a position to have someone in the front office tell him this directly without putting it on the record, and he has better access to information than I do, so take his report with more credence than what I was told this afternoon.
Ichiro, RF
Figgins, 3B
Smoak, 1B
Olivo, C
Cust, DH
J. Wilson, 2B
M. Wilson, LF
Ryan, SS
Saunders, CF
Rene Rivera? Even I had to look up his stats. I couldn’t even remember when he played for us. But I did recognize the name. 🙂
Felix is dealing… please score some runs
So hopefully Perkins doesn’t come out for the9th or else this will be over in 9 more pitches.
League starts off first batter with a first pitch fastball…
Apparently hasn’t read the lookout landing post.
Revenge of the pitchers! Got CB Bucknor right on the crotch~
Cust is due…lol.
Cust IS due!
Smoak down on strikes, abandon all hope!
League’s swinging strike rate seems to me to be terrible for a “closer” with the stuff he has.
He is also giving up 50% more line drives AND fly balls, and 33% less ground balls.
It would nearly seem that his recent problems were more accurate a gauge of the pitcher he is now rather than his prior success.
Small sample size, and all, but…
Shouldn’t have said that thing about the 9 pitch inning…
Cust is due (to get released)!
Cust blast, here we go.
Dear Mr. Cust,
Now is the perfect time for your first long ball.
Love,
All of us
NO WAY IN HELL OLIVO IS OUT
Are you fucking kidding me?
Are you kidding me? Good God
I wasn’t aware CB Bucknor moved out to cover second base…
How do you not run for Olive there?
Ump has a plane to catch.
That wasn’t even a close call, good grief.
Oh crap, he was out.
Well, never mind but it’s not like the ump actually saw that fine of detail.
How in the fuck is this type of behavior in umpires still acceptable in this day and age? How is it that we are the only major sport without instant replay for stuff like this? Olivo reached by a mile, and the man was off the bag on top of that. I’m sick of getting screwed over like this.
Two words can describe the M’s offense: Wet turd.
One more Felix start wasted…
That play was much closer than I originally thought….nice slide Olivo. Another thing you do well.
Olivo was out. Wedge should have run for Olivo though. The game tying run, and you let the catcher stay out there to run.
Wedge again… you made your own bed. Now go sleep in it. If you put ANYONE else in there to run, they are safe.
When Guti comes back at least we’ll have some offensive, and defensive for that matter, upgrades back. At least we don’t have too look at Milton Bradley’s dumb ass anymore. I still think that ump made the wrong call. I don’t think he was out even after the 2nd review. The umpiring behind the plate sucked ass. Bring on the Halo’s!!
That was my point Jordan. If the play was that close Peguero running is clearly safe. Dumb.
Apparently 2010 Francisco Liriano showed up after all.
I’m tired of watching Cust DHing for Felix. Just have Felix hit.
It is nothing short of asinine to have the DH position hitting below .220.
There isn’t a single hitter in the entire organization who can hit over .220 with no power?
His BABIP is .346. He isn’t getting unlucky. He sucks.
Actually Westside Guy, that was just the 2011 Mariners offense that showed up. Easy enough to mix up the cause and the effect there though!
Good News for the Mariners!!

“So Gutierrez will be activated tomorrow and Tom Wilhelmsen is being sent to Double A Jackson to work into the starting rotation”. #Mariners
The Seattle Mariner offense – making lousy opposing pitchers look like Cy Young candidates since 2004.
I was surprised there was no pinch runner, too. I guess they were holding Peguero back to be able to pinch hit. Oops!
@ Henry: Do you realize that you are introducing powers of observation … accompanied by a stat. Come on, man!
Cust is not 100% cooked as far as the team is concerned, but someone will probably be poking him with fork to check on him pretty soon.
The entire team had 3 hits tonight. He obviously is not their only problem, but yeah … he is tough to watch every day.
Olivo was out. Wedge should have run for Olivo though. The game tying run, and you let the catcher stay out there to run.
Most managers won’t pinch-hit or pinch-run for their catchers. They fear being down to one catcher.
(I agree that Wedge should have.)
