It’s not a huge deal, but it’s curious to have Wells in left and Thames in right. Conventional wisdom is to put the better defender in right, or especially the guy with the better arm, which in this case is Wells. However, which corner outfield position should emphasize defense can often depend on how the park you’re in plays as well. For another curious thing, Wells is hitting higher in the order than Thames, despite Thames being the guy with the platoon advantage, but that’s probably mostly Eric Wedge’s managing style of using guys conservatively when he isn’t familiar with them yet.

Yesterday’s completed game marked the 2/3 point of the 2012 season. The Mariners have identical home/road won-loss records. Identical.
The subjectivity of the official scorer … Carp credited with a double for the ball Texiera whiffed on. I am sure he will take it, but what a “gift” that was.
Felix’ pitch count is in great shape after 5.
Gotta find a way to scrape out a couple more runs for him.

That’s the Yankee scorer protecting Teixeira’s record for career fielding percentage. (Depending on where you put the cutoff for games played, otherwise Casey Kotchman and Kevin Youkilis might beat him.)

I love Felix so much. Hasn’t struck out a ton of guys (4 K in 7 IP) but he’s 2-hitting the Yankees. He’s so good.
Did anybody else know that Leon Landry hit for the cycle last night? Now 6-14 since the trade, raising his OPS on the season to .941.
Games like this I feel bad for Felix. One mistake and he loses the win. Glad he can handle the pressure, just wish our offense who take some of the burden too!

Missed the game, but it’s obvious the Saunders’ synergy is driving this team right now. It goes beyond the box score – it’s all about the intangibles. If he’s in the line-up, they win.
It’s obvious, right? The one game he sat, they lost. There’s no other possible explanation.

Saunders must have that “it” factor. Like a grizzled veteran, somehow, someway he’s just willing this team to win (i.e. Tebow).
We need a new proxy stat – like cERA, but for center fielders.
How about cfERA? Saunders is off the charts in cfERA.

Looking back through the last several times Wells played center – his cfERA isn’t nearly as impressive.
It’s an unscientific approach, to be sure – but sometimes you nerds have to get your nose up out of the spreadsheet and actually watch the game.
Being serious now – the Mariners are going against Freddy Garcia tomorrow. We’ve actually got a chance to win this series!
Hopefully “good” Iwakuma will show up…
Now if Tampa can score some runs against Oakland…
