Game 152, Rangers at Mariners

Beavan vs. Harrison, 6:10 pm.
Ackley is out tonight, so we get a little bit improvisatory lineup. Considering that they’re facing a lefty, it’s not bad to give him a day off anyway, and they need to improvise considering that they have yet to find a combination that works against Harrison.
Gutierrez CF-R
Wells RF-R
Seager 2B-L
Montero C-R
Smoak 1B-B
Saunders LF-L
Liddi 3B-R
Jimenez DH-L
Ryan SS-R

Have they found a combination that works against anyone?
Could everyone keep it down a little bit? This thread is awfully noisy..
Maybe Mike is at the Sausage Fest? (local event)
I don’t know why Jimenez gets any starts but, whatever.
By the way, just for fun, Ichiro is now 14-18 and went 3-5 with a HR and 2 BB’s today. Really excited for him!
Sausage Fest … Over a Mariner game? Blasphemer!
Long day out on the water catching mini-bass, cleaning boat, doing yard work, getting boat ready for another day, etc. but I have had time to watch Mr September (Smoak) continue his surge of false positive’ness. Good to see, but … Well… You know.
Beavan with a shut out through 5?! Huh. That will change.
Runs runs runs, boys. Gonna need some more.
… And good for Ichiro. I am happy for him, too. 2 BB’s … He only had 3 in 55 games for the Yankees. If he can remember how to take a walk more than 1.5% of the time, he will be in good shape for a couple more seasons. Get within 50 hits of 3K in time for the 2015 season, re-sign for a part time mariner Swan Song and get his bags ready for Cooperstown.
I hope it happens just that way.
Blake Beavan is in the process of executing a second consecutive “Chris Tillman” on Nolan Ryan.
Ponder that for a minute.
Take that Rangers. Yeah, bet you feel dumb giving us Beavan and Smoak now!
We were out of town until about 20 minutes ago – so I didn’t see the game.
A win is better than a loss, but scoring just one run with Blake Beavan on the mound – were they intentionally trying to tempt fate? Did they forget, thinking Felix was pitching rather than Blake?
It’ll be interesting to see if Saunders ability to hit lefties continues through the next season, or if this is just a weird one-year blip. It’s certainly weird how many of his homers have been against lefties this season, in any case.
And Smoak… seems like he’s out to show something to his former team. It’d be nice if he’d continue to hit against other teams too. Does it seem to be a fluke, or does his swing actually look better?
Just back from the game. The key to the game was Nelson Cruz for some reason trying to score from first on Murphy’s double in the fourth. First of all, he’s Nelson Cruz. Second, Casper Wells doesn’t have a lot of skills other than this particular play. Montero was holding the ball firmly when Cruz was forty feet from the plate. Given we had a new varition on the 2001 theme (bases loaded, no outs, so what?), the game might still be going on.
And total kudos to Josh Kinney, who came in with two on and no outs in the eighth and got two K’s and a meaningless flyout. His WPA was .334 in facing three batters. He got a well-deserved standing O as he left the field. Tiny crowd, but a lot of good baseball fans; they recognized the value of what Kinney did.
Replay showed Cruz dogging it between first and third and was waived in by the 3rd base coach. If I was a Rangers fan, I would feel … like Mariners fans usually feel. It was unbelievable.
Breadbaker, everyone was across the street watching the Sounders score as many as the Mariners. Even in a loss, the Sounders are still…
How the heck did Beavan shut out the Rangers?
The air was thick, so it was hard to hit a long drive, he bunched their hits up the middle, got some double plays and worked his way out of jams.
Jaso’s starting at catcher!
Norah, there’s no such person as Jaso.
Guti didn’t appear to be running particularly hard on that second steal / hit and run.
Thames calls of Triunfel – so Carlos ducks out of the way exactly where Thames needs to catch the ball.
Hopefully it’s windy, since neither one of them appeared to have a good idea where that ball was coming down…
ATTENTION FANS: DON’T INTERFERE WITH YOUR OWN TEAM’S PLAYERS.
That is all.
Three more LAJ at bats – 3 more references to his BP prowess. Oh boy!!!
In the meantime, Carp continues to sit.
Interesting.
Well given that Jiminez is 1 for 14, there’s not a lot else to talk about when he comes to bat. 😀
Crap – another homer.
I told my wife I’d run some errands fairly soon, and Vargas is doing his best to make me want to actually leave.
Ryan actually got a solid hit!
He got REAL LUCKY, though, he didn’t get thrown out at third. That was a stupid attempt, Brendan.
All for naught, in any case.
THAMES!
RYAN with a HOMER!?
If Brendan Ryan hits a home run off you, you know you’ve made a really bad pitch…
Ryan HR – good one, Mayans!
hehehe
Okay, Saunders is out and I can’t put off picking the dogs up from boarding any longer, unfortunately…
Just need a fly ball here, Thames.
Good gravy.
Speaking of gravy …
Crap (again). Just got back in time to see us lose.
Oh, well, 2-3 isn’t bad… but I was feeling greedy. 😉
