Just because it’s not predictive doesn’t mean it’s not fun. Today brings a real test of the M’s-as-juggernaut theory as Joe Saunders and Hector Noesi get set to face the Rangers. Of course, everyone laughed when Saunders got the start for Baltimore against Texas in the one-game Wild Card playoff last year. Riding an eight game winning streak, the stakes may be even higher today. Experience in high pressure situations is one of the reasons the M’s acquired the lefty.
Jason Bay gets another start today. Yesterday, people were shocked at the factoid that the 2013 NY Mets highest paid outfielders are Jason Bay and Bobby Bonilla. I laughed too, but the M’s highest paid infielder in 2013 will be Chone Figgins, so, uh, yeah.

What’s up with all these doubles? Didn’t these guys get the flyer on dingers? Just because Morales hit one out, doesn’t mean the team can relax.

It’s the dreaded “dead arm” syndrome… They’re tired from hitting so many dingers.
Oh wait, that’s supposed to be pitchers who get dead arms in Spring Training.
Hmmm? Maybe they just don’t have their heads in the game today?
Our power guys are taking walks too. Now it’s just getting embarrassing. It’s like they’re afraid to swing all of a sudden?!

(Given recent seasons, in case another commenter jumps in here sometime, I feel the need to point out that I’m being ridiculously facetious. Just to be clear. *laugh*)

Yeah, Montero had what 4 fouls there in a row, took a ball (!), then launched one. Last year he would have struck out on that ball, most times. Very nice at bat.
(Ironically, I wrote that just as Blowers was saying “That’s what happens, they get 2 strikes on them and they start to panic and start hacking away… That’s the difference between a veteran and a young guy.”
Nice first stab at Spring by Joe Saunders today, too. Against the Rangers. Worth pointing that out.

Wonder what the Mariners record for most runs in a spring is?
Right now ST is what we have, and as a fan I like what we have. But I still would not want any part of Peguero and Jacobs during the regular seaason.
I’m listening to the archive radio stream of today’s game and I have to be honest (Morales just hit a homer in the first!) that without Rick Rizz and the play by play being done by Goldsmith(Goldsmit?) that this is terribky boring to listen to.
By the way I watched Figgy play for Miami for three at bats the other day and he had two errors playing third. It was good to see him in mid season form.
Miami deserves Figgins.
And in all fairness I think Figgins deserves Miami 😛
Depending on what position you assign him to, Figgins would also be the 2013 Mariners’ highest paid outfielder as well.
Fortunately, he wouldn’t be the highest paid pitcher. He is ours and you can’t have him.
