Game 69, Mariners at Athletics

King Felix vs. AJ Griffin, 4:10pm *NOTE THE WEIRD START TIME*

Happy Felix day! The M’s are celebrating by having Henry Blanco make his M’s debut. Kendrys Morales turns 30 in a few days, but he’s still barely in his 20s today. That gives the M’s four players in their 20s compared to just three over 35-year olds. This line-up is…something.

1: Chavez, RF
2: Franklin, 2B
3: Seager, 3B
4: Morales, DH
5: Ibanez, LF
6: Morse, 1B
7: Saunders, CF
8: Blanco, C
9: Ryan, SS
SP: King Felix

With Hector Noesi starting for Tacoma, maybe the most interesting SP in the M’s minors is Lars Huijer, the Dutchman who’ll start game 2 of the AquaSox season in Spokane.

I have to admit I was calling for Zunino to PH with the bases juiced.

    Raul-
Confession: me too. My wife mocked me afterwards… “Still want Zunino to bat instead?!”

Westy- funniest post of all-time only because it TOTALLY struck a “yep” chord with me… Your “My team is up by 4 and I feel like I need a rally cap!”

Cracked me up. But nailed the feeling I had when the 9th inning was playing out… Up by 4 and thinking “we have no chance to win this” when Furbush and Medina were getting the matchups.

Maybe the team is FINALLY learning to fool itself, with reverse psychology, meaning– to screw up screwing up. Maybe we’ve come full circle finally and we’re so bad now, we can’t even lose when we should!? *laugh*

    “to screw up screwing up”

    A good line.

I assumed Saunders was going to strike out. Instead he receives an intentional walk. Give Saunders credit, if he had not been patient enough to get to the advantageous count, he wouldn’t have been given the free base and likely could have hit into a double play which would have killed the inning.

From ESPN game notes: Wedge said 1B Justin Smoak (strained right oblique), CF Franklin Gutierrez (strained right hamstring) and demoted 2B Dustin Ackley would likely be re-evaluated after Sunday’s game to determine their next steps

    MrZ-

So does that mean George Costanza was hired as a team mentor?

    “old guy mentors”….
I heard Carlton Fisk is being considered.
