If anyone got and can scan Howard Lincoln’s no-apology apology letter to season ticket holders, can you kindly email us a copy we can post here? OCR into text is best, as I’m sure everyone’s going to want to hack it up and comment on it.

From what I’ve heard so far, Melvin’s out, Lincoln’s got a secret plan to win the war in Vietnam, and all of that money they slashed this year is in Bavasi’s hands, and not in the team’s bottom line (as the team accidentally mentioned was the case earlier).

    I have a copy but alas no scanner. It’s starts off with a brief apology and then continues with a 2 page refutation of Dave’s position on Jose Lopez (including charts and graphs) and culminates with a rather unfortunate quote from Dave’s high school guidance counselor.

    (And no, there was no mention of rolling back or holding the line on ticket prices. Also no mention of Melvin in the letter but no mention of either Ichiro or Boone for that matter. I expect the letter will be posted on their site.)

    That was the bonehead running mistake of the year. Niehaus really ripped Boone on the radio for that.

    I put baserunning outs at 3B above sac bunts as my pet peeve.

    While we are hijacking the comments here, i’ll just drop an update on the Ichiro! watch:

    5/5 for today
    223/589 for the season
    ESPN now projects 712 at bats
    Using that projection, if he goes
    35/123 (.285) he will break sisler’s record
    62/123 (.504) he will hit .400 for the season

    Note that he is 20/32 (.625) over the past week.

    OK, until DMZ posts the entire version (or until he bribes me with a free pass to the Prospectus to type the whole damn thing) here’s paragraph 7 from the letter as a teaser:

    “The next step will be off-season moves — trades and free agent signings. Bill will have the financial resources and flexibility to pursue key players via free agency and trades, to quickly return the Mariners to the quality of play you want and expect. Although, we’ve been asked by several season ticket holders about our interest in specific free agents, because of Major League Baseball’s tampering rules, we are not able to identify the names of potential free agents that we may be interested in signing. In addition, we don’t want the other 29 teams to know our plans.”
