Maybe just maybe he can stay relatively healthy
Good price for Guti. $1 million with additional $2 million in incentives. Even if they only get 40 games out of him (which is the most likely outcome) he should be able to provide more than .2 WAR over that time.
Having Guti on the roster is a good thing. However it will make watching Ackley out there rather more painful.
So, recognizing that there’s still a ways to go before spring training… so far we have:
– an outfielder coming off of health issues with one knee
– an outfielder coming off of health issues with both knees
– an outfielder coming off of health issues with everything
– a replacement-level utility player
– Robinson Cano.
Please tell me that I simply need to look around the league more, and that the M’s are not the only club that seem to make the majority of their acquisitions every winter from the rehab / blue light special / “if he stays healthy” pile.
Add to the outfield list a cameo appearance of Ichiro.
And, no, I wasn’t serious about Price. But there was this growing tendency to be repeating like a sort of mantra that it’s almost more of a Mariners thing to do or not, that all it would take is trigger Walker and, hey, presto…
I don’t know about that, considering how Price has only touched on the idea with a ten foot pole.
Where’s Santa gone?
The M’s just signed Burt Reynolds to a minor league contract. I know he’s kind of old, but look what Rauuuuul did last year. Maybe it will work out.
M’s just signed Will Ferrell and Jack Black to platoon in between innings.
Not sure how that will work out with Burt Reynolds, but I guess you can never have enough comic relief?
Is Sean Connery available?
Ibanez just signed with the Angels.
(True story, not more tomfoolery… Which kinda feels like it needs to be said… But yeah, he’s an Angel.)
Whew!
Thank Goodness!!!! Best of luck Raul, and I mean that!
/\ What Eastside said. Sums it up nicely from start to finish.
Perhaps Raul is a double agent for the M’s.
Really see us needing a backup catcher next. Can we please sign Kurt Suzuki and be done with this? Another veteran who wouldn’t bat an eye at being part time, who is solid defensively and a right hander. I don’t know how he has done against everyone else, but when he played with the A’s, he killed us. Pick him up Jack. He’s cheap and a solid get!!
Eastside Suds – Rosenthal says Ms are one of the suitors for Suzuki.
Rosenthal also says we have lots of interest for Franklin right now. https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/413443973123158016
Morosi says we have strong interest in Ervin Santana (Price trade fall through?).
I think these are all good things.
Anybody still toting the “Mariners are stupid and therefore will re-sign Raul Ibanez, sign Nelson Cruz to a lot of money, and will outbid themselves for Kendrys Morales” narrative briefcase?
No?
Huh. Wonder what changed.
Unless I’m mistaken that leaves us 41 on the 40 man roster. Is there a trade brewing or who do you think my get DFA’d. My guess is Noesi.
Avery is probably the next to go. He is pretty redundant at this point. Or Peguero, but the M’s just don’t want to stop fucking that chicken.
Peguero really, really needs to go.
Peguero is out of options.
And apparently Chance Ruffin was the odd man out.
That’s kind of a shock. Aside from Furbush, though, the Mariners have now completely washed their hands of the Fister trade.
Funny how cheap Detroit gave Fister up too…
Makes you wonder if they realized just how good they made out in that trade?
