Podcast: The Mariners are above .500!
Monday morning podcast(s) continues/begins.
The Mariners played 8 games the past week and ended up 5-3, good enough to get over .500. In fact, it gave us so little to complain about that Jeff and I ended up complaining about baseball and sports itself instead. Because endless pitching changes are just the worst.

I have not tried to access these through iTunes before, but when I do I see everything through last week, but not this week. Am I doing something wrong?
Be patient Denissssssssssss. It will show up soon. iTunes doesn’t poll the feeds continuously – it seems like it only checks every couple of hours.

My only suggestion for speeding up baseball would be to ban “God Bless America” in perpetuity. Fine song; we’ve heard it.
The game is better when it’s faster, but the pace doesn’t really bother me as much as it seems to bother our podcasters. When I watch baseball, I usually bring a book. It’s also a great game to listen to on the radio while you do something else, because you don’t have to listen too close.
When I’m at the game I don’t mind the pace of baseball – I’ve got a whole evening blocked off and likely a beer in my hand.
Other night I’ve often got limited time, and multi-task when watching games currently. If there was a service that showed a baseball game with each pitch (or relevant play) every 5 to 10 seconds and no gaps between innings, I would totally subscribe to it.
Basically, I want more than the highlights but less than the full replay, and while I can nearly achieve this with DVR I definitely miss interesting moments like borderline pitch calls – plus it tends to be a lot of work skipping around. Anyway, wishes and fishes and such…
I actually love long games, the longer the better, simply because I schedule my work / working out / projects around the house to coincide with the games, and other than when attending games, I never just sit and watch or listen. The longer the games, the more enjoyable work is and the more projects and what not I get done. 🙂
On another note, I was just admiring Edgar’s stats on Fangraphs and was curious how they compared to Derek Jeter, who for some odd reason every team seems to feel the need to give him awards when he visits, despite never having played for said teams.
Jeter will be a first ballot hall of famer and no one will question it- accumulating (to date) 73.7 WAR in 2631 games, and probably not likely to accumulate much more this season (if any).
Edgar may not get in to the Hall, yet accumulated 65.6 WAR in just 2055 games. Stupid Yankees and stupid anti-DH voters.
And as a modest proposal, how about just restricting managers to 1 mid-inning pitching change per game (outside of injury).
It would make having good bench players more of a thing in the AL, and one would think the net effect of all this would be a decrease in game time combined with an increase in scoring in the late innings, which would be good for baseball with offense being down of late, not insignificantly because of the fact that seemingly every team has a bagillion guys in the bullpen that can throw in the upper 90’s these days.

I remember I played a hockey game that ended 9 to 9 after regulation. It was an adult league, and the last game of the night. And the Zamboni driver was playing, so we decided that the winning goal would come soon.
We ended up playing 90 more minutes, continuously. I was on the ice when the winner was scored, and sat down, then laid down, and then I think technically died for a minute, and slept for an entire day afterward. The dying part might be wrong, but the rest is true.
But hockey is the greatest sport to play, and once you play it, it’s so amazing what they do at the next levels.
