Podcast: Blake Beavan is like a ratty sponge

Monday morning podcast(s) continues/begins.
That is the conclusion Jeff and I drew in this week’s podcast. In addition, my apologies for a weird audio feedback issue around the 50th minute. It only lasts about one minute.

Thanks again to those that helped support the show and/or StatCorner work in general last week, and in the past, and hopefully in the future. It’s truly appreciated. A lot of those funds have gone into purchasing new equipment to hopefully prevent that interference issue above!

Enjoyed your work as always. I have a question that I would like to hear you guys address in a future podcast, if you’re interested… It is sort of the Eternal Question as concerns the Mariners (so perhaps the answer is 42.)
I look at this list, and I think it’s pretty terrible:
Seager
Saunders, Zunino (?)
Smoak, Ackley, Miller, Franklin
Montero
I’m not sure who should be on the list, but it’s recent high-profile position player prospects who were acquired or drafted by the M’s, and you have one good player, two average-ish players, four disappointments, and one complete crash and burn.
Questions:
Is this list as bad as it seems? Prospects are tricky things, but given the M’s draft positions, is this group not that bad, or are they that bad, or worse than that bad?
Assuming they are bad compared to what we should expect (I think I’m safe there), any guesses whether it’s due to bad luck, development, bad scouting, or something else? It’s easy to criticize as a fan, but honestly I have no clue how to choose good draft picks and get them to the major leagues.
Why do they have better luck with pitchers?

I know I shouldn’t have emotions about all this, but I’ll probably have a big ol’ negative response if the #1 pick is Turner. That said, the way people seem to be thinking that this is going to turn out, I’m probably not going to be worrying about that happening. If the top five prospects are gone in the top five picks, then we get Newcomb or Nola or Conforto or something, and we seem to like Newcomb or so they say.
No one actually knows anything.
