USSM Pizza Feed Information
After a little bit of delay, we have the official details of the Second Annual U.S.S. Mariner Pizza Feed. Last year was a big success, and so we’re doing it again. I’m not sure there’s a better excuse to get out of Christmas shopping at the mall then “Sorry, I can’t today, I have to go hang out with a couple hundred Mariner fans for five hours”.
In anticipation of a much larger crowd than we had last year, we’re shifting venues in the hope of accommodating up to 200 people. If you want to bring your spouse to prove that you aren’t the only one who cares about on base percentage and the rule 5 draft, tremendous. Have some friends who think clubhouse chemistry is the ultimate factor in winning? Bring ’em along. Despite our sabermetric leanings, this isn’t baseball’s version of a Star Trek convention. It’s just normal folks with an abnormal love of baseball getting together in the dead of winter to talk about the boys of summer. What’s not to enjoy?
Anyways, that’s the sales pitch. Here’s the nitty gritty details that you need to know:
When?: December 18th from 12 pm to 5 pm.
Where?: Horace Mann Elementary School in Redmond.
Who?: Derek, Jason, Dave, you, and various special guests who you’ll enjoy meeting.
How much>?: $15 per person
Is there food?: Enough pizza, salad, and sides for lunch and a small dinner (New York Vinnie excluded)
Great! Now what? If you’re going to attend, you must do three things:
1. Email us with the name of each person you’re confirming attendance for.
2. You’ll receive an address in response to mail your check to. Payment in advance is required; your spot is not guaranteed until we receive your money.
3. Show up on the 18th.
We’ll work on getting a paypal account for those of you who absolutely abhor writing checks, but I’d prefer the paper trail of good old fashioned pen and paper.
If you have any general questions that may be of interest to everyone, put them in comments. Specific questions, send me an email. We’ll be announcing a few of the special guests as they confirm their attendance. Either way, it will be a great time, and you should come.

Yes, I’m back to pimp for the second annual U.S.S. Mariner Pizza Feed. We’ve got a good sized crowd confirmed already, but still […]
While I’m going to this, is there any chance for a in game gathering next year? I’ll bring the ginger snaps!
If I’m writing a cheque, I’m drawing on a Canadian bank in Canadian dollars. Since I’m assuming you won’t take foreign currency at par, you’ll need a larger amount.
How much larger? The US dollar has been tanking (which is probably good for your economy), so a straight conversion is about $18 CAD. Would you like $20 CAD, just for the incovenience of having to convert it as you deposit it?
I have a scheduled trip to Vegas the weekend before this (it’s my 30th birthday, so I’m having a final lunatic spree before returning home and fully devoting myself to agoraphobia in my dotage), but I might be able to make a detour on the way back.
Paypal rules.
You can write checks in US Dollars if you’re in Canada.
Hmmm… Shoot. I don’t get off from school until the 19th, leaving me -1 days to get to Redmond. Oh well, there is always next year when I will be living in Seattle.
$15 is a great price though, for a pretty exclusive thing.
So props to you. You guys must not be making hardly anything, if at all, and the work to coordinate this must have been tremendous. Good job guys!
EVAN: Contrary to what DMZ says, you CAN’T write check in US dollars if you live in Canada, unless you have a checking account set up in US dollars. The easiest thing to do, Evan, is stop by your bank and get a US money order made out to USSM for the amount you need. As an American living in Canada, trust me, it’s the easiest way.
Alternatively, I believe PayPal will allow you to do it fairly easily.
You can’t? Really? I have in-laws in Canada that do it. Maybe check with the bank and see. Also, if you’re in Canada, I may be able to set up something else involving hauling beer an n-pack of wacky Canadian brew down (is that legal?) and I’ll cover your fees.
Also, feeds are non-profit, like the site.
Get some Cubans, too, while you’re at it.
Damn I just realized this is the day that I was intending to have people over for the LotR trilogy viewing. You guys couldn’t have had it on the 11th, huh? 😉
Cancel LotR. You can watch that ANY time. USSM pizza feed is once a year.
The correct address for Horace Mann is 17001 NE 104th STREET (not court – as it says on MapQuest).
Interestingly, if you put 104th street into Mapquest, it tells you its invalid, and recommends court. Weird.
Evan, send me an email. We’ll get you squared away.
You’re turning down a mass get-together for a popular but niche internet baseball site to watch a Lord of the Rings trilogy from start to finish.
I bow to the King of the Geeks.
… says the man who finished Halo2 before some people have even unwrapped it.
I’d say it is a co-title. To be shared with my friend who waited in line at Best Buy until 3 AM to get Halo 2 (they left it open due to demand), and proceeded to beat the game by 11 the next morning.
December 18th. Sweet. And I have friends to stay with in Redmond.
I volunteer to drive down from Canada (Vancouver to be precise) with some real beer and so forth. E-mail me.
OT, but has anyone read this? Hilarious.

David (see #19), that’s downright Onion-esque.

Much of the trouble in this world is caused by people practicing amateur psychology.
That person in # 11 definitely needs professional help.
And, as with most Onion stories, completely true in the way that matters most.
When do we need to register/RSVP by?
Oh bummer, Dave, blog-maven,
I have no vehicle, and haven’t been (or needed to be) in Redmond in at least six years. I can’t get there from here (Belltown). Looks like I’m going to miss the big feed, which is most regretable.
Bela – For only $2 you can hop on a bus at 4th and Pike at 10:56 and be dropped off right in front of Horace Mann Elementary at 11:50.
It’s not blowing it off to watch the movies, it’s blowing it off because friends are coming over. There is a difference. It’s a social thing.
…does the fact that I made a poll on my live journal to ask people which days they’d want to watch this, make this more or less geeky?
I’m going to go with more rather than less on this one.
OK, so what’s the Metro bus that connects
civilizationSeattle with this locationCome on, come on, you can go to Metro’s home page and look it up, rather than have us do it for each potential attendee.
Or carpool with others! Bike! Take a llama!
I’ve been there and found a couple of decent routes, not the more direct one Conor mentions.
Just go to MetroKC.gov – click on Trip Planner – type in a location close to you (it may ask you to pick one from a list) then type in Horace Mann Elementary where it asks “where does your trip end?” (Make sure you choose the Horace Mann in Redmond – not Tacoma!) Click “arrive by” 12:00 pm and click the box that says “fastest way” and you should find a bus route from Seattle to right in front of Horace Mann Elementary that takes about an hour.
Damnit, you WOULD be having this on the weekend in December that I’m out of town, with plane tickets and reservations and everything. Grrrrrr….
The good news is I’ll be in Vegas, so I can put odds on the Mariners’ chances for the World Championship. I figure 500-1 odds…
Do we have to bring are own calculators or will they be provided?
No, but be sure to bring your Franklin Spelling Ace.
Shouldn’t that be Franklin Spelling 5th Starter?
