One Thing to Watch This Spring

A friend of mine is writing for a new site called Seattlest, a sister site of a popular New York site called Gothamist. Basically, it’s a one-stop shop for Seattle news (or New York news, in the latter case). In any event, Seth’s on sports and has a quick piece up today about the M’s and Felix Hernandez. Check it out, and give the rest of the site a look as well.

It looks like a potentially useful and interesting site. But, wow, is “seattlest” ever a terrible, terrible name. It doesn’t make any sense; you look at it and think “see-AT-ulst”, which sounds like you’re trying hard to keep something down, not “see-AT-ul-ist”, which is what they want. seattleist, how did that escape them? Chicagoist, Londonist, Gothamist, Seattleist. God, even “seattlist” would have been better. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.

Yeah, I thought the noun was “Seattlite”. Even “Seattler” works better.

    Love the Ogden Nash doggerel.

It should be Seattleist. Not unlike Titleist.

But games, boring?? If this person is your friend, Jason, it’s your solemn duty to straighten him out.

Funny, I was thinking the exact same thing. I read it as “See-AT-lust.” They need to fix that before it gets bookmarked too many times.

See, I read it as Seattle-est. The most Seattle of all. Seattle, Seattler, Seattlest. I guess it works…kind of.

I agree… shoulda been Seattleist (especially in keeping with the naming convention of the other sites).
