Peter’s Limerick-licious AL West Preview

Peter, like Paul, is not dead.
How do I know? His contribution to the AL West Preview for All-Baseball. It is composed entirely of limericks. No, really. It has inspired me to compose the following:
There once was a writer named Pedro
who we put out an Amber alert fo’.
We don’t know when
he will post here again
but his Mariner preview is great, though.
There is no truth to the rumor that we did a Peter White look-alike contest and are soon to replace him with Ewan MacGregor. None at all.

Hadn’t read Peter’s contribution yet, thanks for the link here. Absolutely classic.
Whenever my day grows too long
And Seattle media’s Bloomquist praise grows too strong
USS Mariner’s my daily, not Rizzo or Fairly
or the ubiquitous PL stink bomb.
I’ll miss his player haikus: “Quinton McCracken/Keep your .276 OBP/Far from batters’s box” (or something like that).
Except for Peter doesn’t have as much hair.

Hey! I wrote that ode to QMcC, I can’t believe somebody actually remembered it. For the record it was:
On-base percentage:
Keep your two-seventy-six
far from batter’s box.
I leave my seat…I step to the podium and say:
Hello, my name is Milorad V
(the audience answers back: Hello Milorad)
I am a person who hates limmericks.
(the audience nods gravely)
I hate all forms of glib verse-making
I, naturally, don’t find it informative
but also I fail to feel the fun others feel in it.
I like fun, tho I look for it in other places or in other forms (ie DMZ’s Drinking at Safeco).
So…I confess I hated Pete’s limmerick
and I hated that I wasted time going to the link
and I will be more careful next time.
(I return to my seat, but not before my ‘sponser’ hugs me).
One small question:
“Limerick-licious”??
It was either that or Limer-riffic.
I stand by my decision.
Yeah, I gotta agree with Milorad, actually. The idea of doing the response in limerick form was amusing, but the actual information was limer-icky — as in, I’m not sure the question responses would be informative to people who aren’t already pretty familiar with the team, even though they were funny to those who are.
(But I enjoyed reading the rest of the article, especially “This team couldn’t spell OBP if you spotted them all three letters.”)
Pretty funny stuff, but a couple of those rhyhmes were pretty tortured. To wit: guess, less, Texas; Felix, helix, toothpicks. WTF? Then again, I can’t think of another rhyme for Felix. Seal licks? Teal picks? Real hicks?
how can you possibly write about the 2005 M’s and not mention Ichiro! ???
