Just got back from giving a speech at my hometown university — just in time to free the mind from creeping ivy coverage — and it’s time for the game. Brian Lawrence goes for the Padres, Gil Meche for the M’s.
Lawrence has been had on the road and Meche has been bad on the road, so the runs could flow. Stay out of the big inning, Gil.

Listened to the game on the radio driving back from the lake. Time to put the boat into the slip and wait for some sunshine.
It needs to be said that Niehaus is golden. I know he mixes up his players and gets himself crossed up now and then, however he can share a play or even just a pitch that is often times better than even being at the park.
Captian Obvious, aka Ron Fairly can be a bit tedious sometimes but I do appreciate that he can sometimes just be quiet enough to allow the better of the two work magic. Unlike listening to Valle/Rizz who seem to enjoy stepping on one another and argue like two old hens.
Mowed yesterday. Mower still works, always buy Cub Cadet.
Overall good win for the Mariners. They got the lead, held the lead, won the ball game. Wasn’t pretty. I’d like to see a few less back to back solo shots and a few more 3 run / solo shot back to backers, but hey. Runs are runs.
1/4th of the season done. Sexson’s on pace to hit about 48 home runs this year. God, when was the last time we had a legit power threat like that? Comeback player of the year? Maybe.

That being said, Edgar could slug with them as well at his peak, but he was more high-average + doubles + 25 HR, as opposed to lower average + 45 HR.
160: Toro is the awesum, except it died on me.. The Craftsman is pretty good too.

Its not beyond reason to expect to hear this soon: “If they’re going to get hits they are gonna have to put the bats on the ball.” Perhaps Ron has already said it. Wouldn’t surprise me. If he loses many more brain cells he could get a job calling basketball games.
