Doyle in the News Tribune

Long piece on everyone’s favorite Yoda fan and Rainiers outfielder, including a lot of Jedi analogies (and it’s Dagobah, if anyone at the TNT is out there proofing the article).
“A lot of people would say I try to be different. I’m not conformed. I like individuality. To each his own, and stuff like that.â€Â

Send you to the majors I can, but help your friends you cannot. Losing season they will have, yes.
First and foremost, it’s good that Doyle has taken a laid back approach to his setbacks.
Anyhow, also regarding newspaper columns, it seems as if USSMariner’s least favorite Seattle sportswriter, Bob Finnigan, was thrown under the bus by Bill Bavasi; I wonder if, in reply, Finnigan will quit his homerism and write Bavasi a nasty letter renouncing his ‘fan’aticism via shorthand . . .

Use the Force, Doyle.
Sounds like Finnegan got what he deserved.
Finally Finnegan is exposed for his fibs. It was my understanding that Yamauchi had sold his interests in the team and had no ownership rights.
Now if we could just get Bavasi to request an immediate buyout of his contract…..
Dagobah, not Degobah. Bah!
He sold his interests in the M’s to Nintendo, it was more about setting up his estate incase he passes away. I’m sure he has just as much pull as ever.
Move Bavasi up 100 basis points for outing Pocket Lint! This isn’t the best time for Bavasi to be soiling the press nest either, but he did it anyway.
Too bad nobody paid as an editor over at Paper of Quality will even know it happenend.
While Paper of Quality predictably declines to employ an ombudsman, they are interested in tips from readers.

Man, what geeks. You/we complain about the misspelling of a fictional planet, but not that they spelled the guy’s name wrong at the beginning of the career summary. F-L-O-Y-D or C-H-R-I-S but not C-R-I-S. A proof reader they have not.
Yamauchi doesn’t own the team personally, but he is head of the group at Nintendo that’s in charge of the team. That said, my impression is that they’ve been fairly hands off except for Ichiro and approving the budget. I’d understand consulting with them if Bavasi was going to trade Ichiro, but Hasegawa. That doesn’t pass the sniff test. In defense of Finnegan, never let the facts get in the way of a good story.
Good to see press on Floyd. Is he ready for the big leagues once we clear a spot in the lineup? Does he still need more re-hab time?
Uh … it’s Dagobah. Not Degobah.
Nice article and a good read, thank you for posting it.
It’d be great if the board operators could somehow work this into the whole “May The Morse Be With You” gag.
On second thought, no it wouldn’t.
#10 They were not hands-off about Sasaki.
I find it amusing that a thread that bitches about spelling a fictional planet can’t get the spelling of the Seattle Times sportswriter right…even when it’s quoted directly from the Times in a post.
A hijack in comment 2. Wow.
#10, Art Thiel wrote in his book that Yamauchi basically wants the final word on Japanese players. When he learned of RJ-for-Nomo rumors he reportedly told Lincoln (p.182):
“‘I thought I told you you can run this damn club,” Yamauchi said through his interpreter, ‘but when it comes to Japanese players, you check with me first.'”
Um, we should have a game thread. Beltre just woke up.
That picture of Lou and the trainer helping Doyle off the field is so fitting. Snelling was Lou’s boy, he was in love with him.
Lou usually has a pretty good eye for up and coming players.
