But who wouldn’t be flattered by being associated with Dog the Bounty Hunter?

  2. Ty on July 10th, 2005 3:53 pm

Oh my God. They just compared Willie Bloomquist to Omar Visquel… Defensively!

  3. Jesse on July 10th, 2005 3:53 pm

What do you think this winning streak does for our status as a “seller” in this years market?

  4. what on July 10th, 2005 3:54 pm

    BIG dog, people

    This is important.

Classic over-managing by Hargrove, there. No need to yank Mateo, he is your best non-Guardado guy (at least he is by everyonoe’s standards but Grover’s). For a couple of guys who have relatively okay-looking numbers, is there a more unreliable-seeming duo than Villone/Nelson?

I don’t disagree but as it turns out, Hargrove made the right move.

    98. Isn’t Borders getting the next 3 days off with the AllStar break anyway. One inning would kill him. Afterall, he’s “the game’s most durable player,” just ask any Mariner announcer.

  7. Matt Williams on July 10th, 2005 3:55 pm

But who wouldn’t be flattered by being associated with Dog the Bounty Hunter?

I was going to respond to that, but there are just so many issues with that family I can’t think of the most offensive ones to be compared to.

  8. Unkle Rusty on July 10th, 2005 3:56 pm

Daaaaan (#98), not sure if you were being serious or not, but we are at the All Star break, why would Borders need a full day off?

  9. sodomojojojo on July 10th, 2005 3:57 pm

    105 whoops, meant “wouldn’t”

  10. Sheri on July 10th, 2005 3:57 pm

Can you STAAAAND it??? Nellie strikes out Vlad with the bases loaded???? OMIGOD!!!!!!!!!!!!

    102.
I think Bavasi won’t sell anyone – mainly because no one has value. The Boone DFA was the beginning and end of it.

  12. RickL on July 10th, 2005 3:58 pm

    103. Well, we’ve scored 33 runs against the best team in the division. The question is, is this sustainable? I have a foolish hope that it is and that we can contend for the playoffs after all. But I realize how unrealistic that is.

  13. Unkle Rusty on July 10th, 2005 3:58 pm

The A’s just knocked off the White Sox again. Call me crazy, but on balance, I think the A’s are the best team in the West (if Dotel and Street are healthy).

Also, for you Comcast folks with high def, channel 664 (INHD) has 3 or 4 baseball games in High Def each week, including today’s A’s game. Very, very crisp High Def (though I had to suffer through the White Sox announcers today).

Re: (#s 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 11) CATCHER INTERFERENCE – If ERSTAD stands at the very back of the batter’s box, and the catcher remains in the catcher’s box until the ball is pitched, and catcher’s interference (with Erstad at bat) has already occurred four times, then maybe the catcher’s box is located too far forward.

  15. bri on July 10th, 2005 3:58 pm

    101. I know. I’m glad that sounded funny to someone else besides me.

    87. Just curious, what possible motivation would Hargrove have to be a “prick” about the beloved Doyle?

  16. Jesse on July 10th, 2005 4:00 pm

Big Sexy 6-12 with 4 rbi is a pretty good way to end the first half.

  17. Sheri on July 10th, 2005 4:01 pm

More rumours about trading Eddie (and Ron Villone!): http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=citadel-2_394349_318&prov=citadel&type=story

  18. strong silence on July 10th, 2005 4:01 pm

    A’s won – dagnab it.

Beane will be Bavasi’s nemesis for a long time.

Huston Street appears to have the closer mentality AND long reliever durability. He pitched 3.1 innings today!

  19. aric on July 10th, 2005 4:02 pm

Just joined… I always thought STP stood for Shirley Temple’s (Cat).

  20. strong silence on July 10th, 2005 4:04 pm

BTW, on Kennedy’s double which hit off the wall. Did Ichiro appear to lose it in the sun? He tracked it very poorly.

  21. RickL on July 10th, 2005 4:04 pm

    112. You may be right about the A’s. they have been pretty hot for a while.

  22. strong silence on July 10th, 2005 4:09 pm

#112 – Although “best team” may be misleading. The winner of the AL West might have only 86 wins

  23. Cool Papa Bell on July 10th, 2005 4:10 pm

    #115

Those aren’t rumours, that’s just speculation, pure and simple.

  24. Unkle Rusty on July 10th, 2005 4:11 pm

#113, I honestly don’t know what his motivation would be, maybe he is mad at the FO for bringing up a youngster with an implicit pressure to play him. Grover clearly favors the gritty veteran-types. Just speculating. There has to be some reason for the utterly illogical non-usage of Doyle so far.

  25. Jesse on July 10th, 2005 4:11 pm

#120 – The Angels will win at least 90 games. Put it in the books. Even with a second half run by the A’s and Rangers.

  26. RickL on July 10th, 2005 4:14 pm

Please, Eddie, don’t blow your trade value here.

  27. G-Man on July 10th, 2005 4:14 pm

Two out, and my wife deson’t want to jinx them.

… and, yup, there goes a double into the stands.

  28. Unkle Rusty on July 10th, 2005 4:15 pm

Oh, and for the record, I like Olivo, am happy he went yard, I don’t think he should be sent down. He should be playing 2/3 of the games behind the dish for now. My opinion regarding the M’s roster is if you ain’t part of the future, you ain’t part of the present. But he should not have been at the plate with Shields on the mound and an insurance run on 3rd with one down.

  29. Christopher Michael on July 10th, 2005 4:17 pm

#126 Nah, they want Eddie to get another save and figured the best way to do that was to keep Olivo at the plate.

  30. Christopher Michael on July 10th, 2005 4:17 pm

    Sweep! Take that LAA!

  31. RickL on July 10th, 2005 4:17 pm

    115. The names they list are crazy. The last thing we need is another outfielder. We have so many good outfielders, Doyle doesn’t get much chance to play.

  32. Jim Osmer on July 10th, 2005 4:21 pm

Is Gil Meche the worst 9 game winner at the break?

  33. strong silence on July 10th, 2005 4:22 pm

    #129 and 115,

    Guardado for Penny?

    Guardado for Webb?

Nahh…we need prospects but we also need the Dodgers and Dbacks to get closer and to blow a few more saves.

  34. Jim Osmer on July 10th, 2005 4:23 pm

Nellie getting Vlad twice this series helped his trade value.

  35. JPWood on July 10th, 2005 4:29 pm

You got that right, but Nellie to where? Getting Vlad twice in two nights in clutch situations is worth more than a candle, but probably more to the Ms than anyone else who hasn’t seen him already.
    Anyway: time to celebrate this!

  36. Tim on July 10th, 2005 4:30 pm

You would rather have some prospect than Webb or Penny? Remember, those guys were recently prospects that made it to the major leagues and pitched well. Why would you rather have a prospect that has much less probability of succeeding in the big leagues?

  37. strong silence on July 10th, 2005 4:32 pm

    Tim
I think it won’t happen because La and AZ won’t give them up. That is why I wrote Nahhh.

  38. jimbob on July 10th, 2005 4:34 pm

Rizzs and Valle piling on in a their insipid mindless way in the postgame wrapup seems OK for a change. I hate LA.

  39. Mountainman Ernie on July 10th, 2005 4:54 pm

Good series, great game. Way to go Jeff, Eddie. Keep them all, good wake up Price. The Price is always right when you keep to buisness. Grover, glad your here!

#130 I think thats a given. But how crazy is it that Ron Villone led the team in wins last year with 8 and the mariners already have an 8 game winner and a 9 game winner and were only to the all star break?

  41. fiction on July 10th, 2005 4:58 pm

    M’s win.

For fun it would be entertaining for Dave and others to give opinions regarding trades. I believe M’s have more valuble chips than other teams.

Authers know much more than can be gleaned on internet.
Plus the fact over years positions have been proven correct

  42. fiction on July 10th, 2005 5:13 pm

    Others nut who cares?
