Game 114, Angels at Mariners
DMZ · August 12, 2005 at 6:15 pm · Filed Under Game Threads
LHP Jarrod Washburn v LHP Jamie Moyer. 7:05.
I don’t understand how the Angels were able to change their name so quickly and have everyone accept it. If the Mariners were tomorrow to change their name to the New York Mariners of Seattle, would we really see NYS on the scoreboards the next day?
Your Doyle-less lineup:
Ichiro, RF-L
Bloomquist, Ignitor/2B-R
Ibanez, LF-L
Sexson, 1B-R
Beltre, 3B-R
Reed, CF-L
Betancourt, SS-R
Spiezio, DH-B
Torrealba, C-R
Q: How do you know when you need a new DH?
A: When your DH bats 8th and hits .057

On the plus side, Beltre is hitting…when it doesn’t matter
Hooray Hasegawa. That is almost as surprising as a Spiezio hit.
Wow, Hasegawa’s been replaced with another pitcher.
Some kind of Robohasegawa
Vlad Guerrero can make outs? Since when?
Mechagawa
#152: Kreuger called it: umps are getting hungry. Swing if you can reach it, ’cause it’s gonna be a strike.
Nice to see Hasegawa pitch well when the game is out of hand. Yuck.

Okay, we just need 5 to tie, or 6 to win.
#160: Sorry you can’t stay. Game details are always available on gameday at mlb.com.
Alright! Hit ’em where they are…. right?
Watching Betancourt ground out is at least better than watching Wilson Valdez. At least he is providing us with some glimpses of potential at the bat and especially in the field.
.051!!!
Can we start calling Spiezio’s spot on the bench Area .051?
Hmmmm, take the metro home from work and we give up a 5 run inning. I wonder if its too late to head back in and try to cut into that deficeit.
Does anyone even sit close to Spiezio on the bench? I wouldn’t think so.
Poser Mobile gets on base. Rally caps, everyone!
Update: Yeah, too late
Remember when Ichiro didn’t strike out? Those were good times indeed.
#171: Yeah, sure…next thing I know you’ll be telling us that Scott Spiezio used to hit clutch homers in the playoffs…
At least Miguel Olivo isn’t hitting over .300 with the Padres anymore, something is right with this world.
This game makes me want to go to Duffy’s Bar.
I remember when we had a 19 year old who was just filthy. Can we just go ahead and talk about him some more. Don’t pretend like thats not why we’re all here anyway.
Here’s hoping Ray Allen DH’s instead of Spezio the King of Pop(up) Grunge tomorrow.
What a horrible few days of baseball, Cameron getting seriously hurt, our new Left Fielder with a good eye out for the season and the Mariners playing like #^*% again. Just when I was feeling good for once this year.
I think Sabotage Sandfrog’s K/H ratio is 17/2.
I think we’re wearing out the word ‘pathetic’ watching these games. Unfortunately, it’s also starting to look like significant improvement even by 2007 is a mirage. When it comes to developing this team, there ain’t no there there at least with any of the material we can see today.
Playing Spiezio because you owe him 3.1 million is like eating the rest of your dinner when it tastes terrible (and gives you the runs) just because you paid $10 for it.
Whoa. Where can you get a dinner that gives you the runs for only ten bucks in Seattle?
That was a nice waste of a Friday night, eh? Although I grow more and more impressed with Vlad the Impaler as each day passes by. When that second HR left the bat, I thought it was going to be the first to leave Safeco entirely.
Frustrations over the Mariners aside, I am looking forward to seeing how this AL West race plays out with the Athletics and the “Southern California” Angels. To touch on DMZ’s opening remarks, you can’t pay me enough to refer to them by their official name. I mean, by that standard I should refer to my other favorite team as New York Mets of Flushing. Yuk!!!
#180 depends on how sensitive your stomach is.
the m’s need to understand that the money is spent.
the options are dobbs/leone/lopez/strong/choo/bucky for the roster spot. I would actually dump sandfrog and bring up two.
or maybe give Adam Jones a look who is doing great hitting in a pitcher’s park in AA.
“Q: How do you know when you need a new DH?

Are you reading, Mr. Bavasi? Please!
“now pinch hitting for Scott Spiezio,….Gil Meche”
Zach, #166, I’m not usually for dumping on players, bad or good, but cutting wit is always appropriate: Area .051 is _PRIMO_, and I’m filing that thought away.
And we thought Jeffery Cirillo sucked.
