Game Thread – Doyle’s Return
Dave · May 10, 2006 at 11:20 am · Filed Under Mariners
Morning game for the Rainiers, and as we mentioned last night, Doyle is back. So, to enjoy the festivities, have a minor league game thread.
Also, for those who aren’t aware, milb.com is offering pitch-by-pitch gameday action, in case you aren’t able to listen to Mike Curto broadcast the game.

Umpires: HP: HP Umpire. 1B: 1B Umpire. 2B: . 3B: 3B Umpire.
Wonder if they’re related…
42. Feelin’ ya, though I think no matter what, you make the move. Lawton or Petagine can easily be sent packing. If Doyle is healthy you have to make room for the dude no matter how much shuffling you have to do.
Yeah Doyle!! As for where to put him when/if they call him up, I really hope they jettison Everett at that point. As much as I doubt the FO would actually do that..
I just don’t want Everett to have enough AB’s to kick in any options for next year!
Let us pray this is the beginning of the end of Carl Everett.
54: Hey, c’mon. Crazy Carl homered last night. And he has the second or third highest OBP on the team.
I think if they bring him up he’ll be the the DH. They’ll Probably get rid of Lawton since they will need Evetett to be a back up DH in case on injury and since they see WFB as a viable option in center. Another thing to consider is that realistically by the time Doyle’s really ready it may be near roster expansion time.
Hmmm. I guess we should be glad Cody Ransom isn’t playing for us anymore, eh…
Rosters expand September 1. It is currently May 10. It will not take Doyle four months to get back in the swing of things. Four weeks is more like it.
Sooner or later Doyle and Choo are going to force the M’s to make a move. I hope for sooner.
Everett is worthless, compared to other DHs and other five-hole hitters around the league. Check the stats on ESPN.com.
And a garbage-time dinger off Doug Waechter isn’t exactly like a ninth-inning poke off Mariano Rivera.
He is gumming up the middle of the offense with his hacktastic ways.
No relation between the Mark McLemores. This one is a white kid, who pitched at OSU. I remember him from my year in the OSU press box.
When Hargrove is fired, one hopes roster changes will follow. By the end of May, if we’re lucky.
I have no problem with Carl Everett, other than the fact he has no role in the future of this team. Let’s go with the young guy that has a chance to help us for the next 10 years (IF he can stay healthy!)..
Waiting for the Ms game thread…
What hurts even more about Everett’s presence is the batting order. Sexson-Everett-Beltre is just not getting it done and needs to be changed until these guys get something going. We need some extra base hits, doubles…something!
I do appreciate his walks and his average seems to be creeping up but Hargrove needs to take a look at what options will score us runs (and not just against the D-Rays) now.
Everett’s walks are a typical old-player phenomenon, as an aging hitter tries to work the count and wear out the pitcher to make up for his growing inability to get around high-speed pitches. It works for a little while, then pitchers catch on and start throwing nothing but strikes, forcing him to hit. At that point, the jig is up and the hitter’s weaknesses are fatally exposed.
I would like to formally request of the USS Mariner management team that “Doyle” be changed forevermore to “The Biscuit”, as described in the article about him. “Seabiscuit” is dumb but “The Biscuit” is poetry.
Sounds like McLemore’s hurt. New pitcher for Doyle/Biscuit/Snelling/Yoda.
Yeah, that looks weird on the gameday app… like he’d thrown a pitch to Doyle and then was suddenly being taken out? Ouch.
I’m with you on Everett, Jim. Believe me. He’s about to fall off the planet, and the M’s made a bad deal. I’m just damning with faint praise. #3 on the team in OBP is not so good when the average team OBP is .311.
Damn. FO-7.
deanna,
he apparently threw a pitch and then yelled for the trainer. They took him back to the clubhouse…doesn’t sound good.
1-1 in the 9th…
Maybe Doyle just passed on the injury curse to The Other Mark McLemore.
#33–
In 2000, broke his left hand, later that season he suffered ligament damage in the same hand.
In 2001 broke his left ankle.
In 2002, broken thumb, surgery on the ACL in the left knee.
In 2004 surgery to remove the hook from the hamate bone in his right hand; less than two months later, he had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right wrist; shut down in Aug. due to tendinitis in his left elbow.
In 2005 torn medial meniscus in the left knee, rehabbed, then ACL surgery left knee
I think that is it… did I miss anything?
72 – yeah, fitting that he got hurt *while pitching to snelling.* I’m hoping that the curse has now found a new host-body.
Hunter Brown’s been ejected, Deanna – ooh, along w/Terry Pollreisz.
Replacement umps….will they ever learn?
Ok, now Brundage’s been tossed by the 3B umpire. Pollreisz arguing with the 1B umpire. HP umpire ejected brown.
Who’s the Rainiers’ coaching staff at this point?
Dave Myers?
Something tells me Dobbs will get the game-winning hit in the 11th.
there isn’t any chance Doyle gets on with Myers in charge, is there?
Time for Doyle to be the hero …
Dave Myers stops the winning run at 3rd. Damn it.
Oh, get it – Doyle’s up. He must want Snelling to get the walk-off hit. Fair enough.
What was he ejected for? Arguing the called third strike again like the other day? This can’t be good.
Are they going to walk in the winning run? Wheee.
actually Myers had tried to wave the run in, but the runner missed that the outfielder had bobbled the ball and stopped himself.
woohoo Doyle wins! Doyle wins!
Deep RBI off the wall! GWRBI Snelling!
Doyle is BACK.
Yay. The force is strong in this one.
Looks like he just missed a Grand Slam.
Ah well, I take it.
anyway, I wonder, are there statistics on how many people have been ejected during the umpire strike? I’m sort of curious.
Of course, the fact that this was a walk-off hit just cost Doyle 2 RBI and .250 points SLG.
I’m glad it was a walk-off, so he didn’t have to run hard to second. Never can be too careful with this guy.
