Wow, two hits for Reed and Sexson in the same night. Now if only they could do this when the pitching didn’t suck.

  2. Jim Thomsen on May 12th, 2006 9:11 pm

Just in case anybody was wondering, there was no question that Reed would start hitting again. It’s what he’s genetically engineered to do.

  3. marbledog on May 12th, 2006 9:13 pm

I agree about Reed. Problem is, a fellow has to play to start hitting again. I wonder if anyone has explained that to Hargrove.

Ichiro getting doubled-up…it’s that kinda night.

KW, Livingston is a control pitcher who has started his entire career. Grover doesn’t give him any work for 10 days and his command wasn’t their. Grover deserves a fair share of the blame on this one.

  6. VandalJeff on May 12th, 2006 9:18 pm

    well, that’s fun.

  7. argh on May 12th, 2006 9:18 pm

    Holy crap.

  8. rd on May 12th, 2006 9:18 pm

It’s like watching a little league game here.

Yeah, I suddenly have the urge to call somebody a booger-eating moron.

Coming tonight on MTV’s “Beavis and Beltre” ….

    Beavis: Uhhhhh … hey, Beltre.

Beltre: Uhhhh … shut up, Beavis. I’m trying to eat some nachos!

Beavis: Ummm, that’s like, a popup or something.

    Beltre: Oh, yeah. Huhhuhhuhhuhhuhhuhhuhhuhhuh.

155 I disagree. If you’re gonna play with the big boys then you need to be ready, and Livingston wasn’t. He was a complete disaster and he should go back to Tacoma tomorrow.

  12. shortbus on May 12th, 2006 9:20 pm

!@#% YEAH! Wow Reed is making a case for himself tonight!

  13. Henry Reed on May 12th, 2006 9:22 pm

    159 — I’m 55 and that made me laugh.

  14. Rick L on May 12th, 2006 9:24 pm

    159, 160, LOL

With some chagrin I am going to behave like a fair-weather fan and turn this stupid game off and watch some X-Files reruns or something, thereby exponentially increasing the chances of the Ms mounting a huge comeback rally. So when that happens, you have me to thank. Just so you know.

  16. Typical Idiot Fan on May 12th, 2006 9:30 pm

Not weird really, just doesn’t go deep into counts.

Perhaps, but I also see him get to a lot of 0-2 and 1-2 counts. Makes me wonder what his approach really is. Does he free swing a lot early and go ultra hand/eye defensive?

  17. Rick L on May 12th, 2006 9:36 pm

Hargrove is over-using Sean Green. I don’t think he’s used to going this long, and he can no longer find the plate. He was the closer at Tacoma.

  18. Rick L on May 12th, 2006 9:41 pm

Beltre pulls us to within five.

I would say Jake Woods is the towel, since they hardly ever bring him in unless the game is out of reach. Bobby Livingston is at least a starting pitching prospect possibility.

  22. Jim Thomsen on May 12th, 2006 9:54 pm

Reminds me of when the Sonics had Steve Scheffler at the end of their bench. Whenever he entered the game, Kevin Calabro ould say: “Now it’s not just a blowout … it’s a SCHEFF-OUT!”

  23. Typical Idiot Fan on May 12th, 2006 9:56 pm

9 walks today for our pitching staff. This seems to be a chronic epidemic. Pitchers lose control sometimes; it just is going to happen. But it seems for the Mariners this year that it isn’t just one pitcher in a game that it happens to, it’s 3 or 4 of them. Soriano, Sherril, and Green had “walkitis” in a game a week ago and now Pineiro, Livingston, Green, and Woods have issued 9 free passes.

    Gad.

On the other hand, it was another fun game to watch in Tacoma. Maybe they should televise those instead. (they televise 10 of the New Orleans Zephyrs games, why NOT Tacoma?)

  26. KR on May 12th, 2006 10:01 pm

Two walks in 3.2 innings (Green) isn’t that bad for a reliever not used to long stints. But nine walks overall? Yeah…

  27. bigred on May 12th, 2006 10:03 pm

Man that sucks, M’s gotta take the next 3.

So let’s give all the possible managerial candidates from the last go round a quiz. A story problem, multiple choice.

You have a young pitcher, someone you have hopes for, recently up from the minors. He got rocked a bit in his first outing, but had a better second go.

So now he’s up, fourth inning (why he is in at all is another story), your team has just brought the game with one.

    1st batter – HBP

    2nd batter – K

    3rd batter – Walk

    4th batter – single

    5th batter – walk in a run

    6th batter – walk in a run

    7th batter – grand slam

    8th batter – single

Ok, so poll all those candidates and at which point in that list of horrors do you think they pull the plug?

How many people leave this poor kid (who you may give a bad case of the nervous jumps for the future) out for all eight batters???

I pretty much belong to the school that says if you got a reliever who walk a run in after starting bases empty… you pull him. At the latest. Then again, walking runs in is a particular pet peeve of mine.

But if he walks ANOTHER run in and you STILL keep him out there? I stop being upset with the pitcher and direct my ire elsewhere.

The winning on the road Litmus Test, is beginning to look pretty dismal… and it’s a long way to end July. What to do… What to do…

I wonder if there are any left-over Edgar Bears and have a Nostalgia Night (Edgar could even do an inning or two at first base…). With the fan base, that always worked in the past…

    aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The lifeless M’s need a wakeup call

Firststep…send a warning shot over the bow by firing Hargrove….

  32. Xteve X on May 13th, 2006 10:38 am

Didn’t Dave predict Grover would be fired on May 19th? I can’t see one reason why he should be managing this club come June 1.

That may be a distinct possibility if the Ms go winless on this road trip. What a dismal performance, well other than Reed I guess.

  33. Karen on May 13th, 2006 10:39 am

I followed marbledog’s example in #165…after the Mariners got to within 1 and the famous leave-Livingston-in-to-get-hammered inning changed the score rather dramatically.

You’d think Joel Pineiro would be able to concentrate on two facts in this game: He WAS declared Player of the Week last week, and he should still be enjoying the afterglow… and, Kelvim Escobar isn’t exactly the Angels’ ace, but to actually WIN against the guy you can’t lean on POTW laurels, you have to PITCH.

All these guys should be treated like a sequestered jury: they shouldn’t be allowed to see or hear media accolades OR ridicule about their hitting or pitching. They tend to go into a funk over either…

  34. terry on May 13th, 2006 12:44 pm

Well, id think that if there were two teams that you should have no trouble getting up for if youre a Mariner, it would be the A’s and the Angels…..
