Assuming all goes well, going back to Comerica oughta screw with his head.
Tigers vs Cardinals is the better name matchup. It paints a much more enjoyable picture in my mind.
I know the St Louis team is named after the bird, but I prefer to think of them as a bunch of aging Catholic clergymen dressed in red trying, using their ornamental croziers to fend off a hoard of Siberian cats.
Cardinals vs Padres is always the hoped for clerical matchup in the NL. Padres or Cardinals vs Angels would be an interesting World Series, with some seriously metaphysical ramifications.
Other vividly imagined matchups:
Giants vs Pirates? Marlins vs Mariners?
Football has some of the best: Redskins vs Cowboys is the classic; Bears vs Dolphins is just messy to think about.
How many people are looking forward to a WS matchup between Jeff Weaver and Kenny Rogers? Two former post-season choke artists turned post-season “aces”?
Plus, we get to see more of Scott Spiezo and his facial hair!
The Cards need to clinch tonight or the series is done. With Carpenter on the bump and an extra day’s rest, he should be dealing (if he can get out of the 1st inning without incident). I can’t fathom rooting against the Cardinals – Pujols is one of the few players I would pay large amounts of legal tender to watch in person. I saw him at RFK against the pathetic Nats last month. Pedro Astacio made the mistake of throwing a 3-2 curve right in Albert’s wheelhouse and he put a coat on that hanger – a laser job off the facade of the upper deck, which in RFK is no easy task.
Long story short, week or two more of watching Pujols > any alternative. Plus the Cards have the best fans in baseball and it would be great to see the new Busch rock in October the way it did last night.

They have plenty in Siberia, to keep them warm on the long, cold winter nights. It’s the rest of us who have to do without, because of all the hoarding in the Russian far east. They’re like the Panthera Tigris OPEC. Damn Siberian feline hoarders! I want my enormous, man-eating cat! You have so many, and I need only one…
