Game 94, Mariners at Blue Jays
Weaver vs Towers, 10:05 am.
As far as non-Safeco matchups go, this one is pretty Weaver friendly. The Blue Jays best hitters are all right-handers, and Weaver’s traditionally much better against same handed hitters. I don’t expect him to dominate, but if we have to start the back end of our rotation on the road, this is about as good a matchup as we can hope for.
Josh Towers is the Blue Jays version of Cha Seung Baek – throw the ball over the plate and see what happens. He’s a bit homer prone, but he won’t walk anyone, so the M’s will have to earn their runs today.

Hey davepaisly, I was just asking a question. It was a response to your remark of “newbie”. While I’m not sure how long each individual reader has been reading this blog I can say you have been around longer then me. My hat is off to you sir! I started 2 seasons ago and love the work these guys do.
Now in reference to your statement that you have been reading this blog since I was “still soiling my diapers on a regular basis”. How the F*%K (notice I had some respect for your tender sensibilities) do you know when I stopped soiling my diapers on a regular basis? As a matter of fact, I feel the urge to soil RIGHT NOW!!!!!
On a serious note, davepaisley, you should remember one of the comment guidelines is to refrain from saying things that might get you punched in a bar. F*%K by itself usually doesn’t lead to fisticuffs. Calling someone “Stupid AND uncouth” has a good chance to start a brawl. Just food for thought….
sigh. never thought I’d feel sorry for Jeff Weaver.
did I hear Neihaus say that Towers was 5-0 against the Ms at Rogers Center?
OK, joealb, I apologize – should have directed my diaper comment at the poster who deserved it. The one who has been posting here for, what, 48 hours? And proved his inability to take a hint several times already. I’m not really sure why you have picked up his torch at all.
There’s even a place for occasional profanity (see today’s game, where the ump takes one in the ribs and was caught on TV reacting vociferously), but it should at least be part of some kind of comment that makes a point, rather than a one word exclamation that adds nothing to the debate.
Honestly, if you are OK with comments here turning into a profanity-riddled stream-of-consciousness rambling, I’d be surprised, as the place would be unreadable in a matter of days.
Weaver draws Haren next week.
so i missed the game. i was working. but read the re-cap. where is our offense?? weaver kicked ass today
Right on davepaisley, no appology necessary. I really wasn’t taking up anyones “torch”. I just thought your comment a little absurd considering DAMellen had just written exactly what I was thinking at the time. When it comes to ramblings, I stop to read very few of the comments around here that are not left by the authors. The rest, usually, are not worth the time to read. Maybe Churchill but that is about it. Your comment just caught my eye. After that, I couldn’t help myself, I have to admit, I CRACKED UP writing the “soil RIGHT NOW !!!!!” line.
IMHO, on content-driven sites such as this one, profanity detracts from the content in about 99.9999999999% of instances and consequently reflects poorly on the author. There’s a huge difference between standing out and being outstanding.
[with the exception of Churchill, about 200 USSM blogger contributor/commenters just got dissed, methinks]
I feel so inadequate.
I’m sure you’ve all stopped looking at this by now, but I’ll just say again that I’m sorry I swore. However, I do think I made my point rather nicely. Josh Towers is not that good a pitcher and he ripped through us like tissue paper, plus wasting a performance like that from any pitcher is upsetting, but from a guy like Weaver who has struggled so much this year, it seems even more awful.
This is so funny, I just have to post it. ON ESPN’s summary of the M’s BJ’s game is this summary:
A CLOSER LOOK
• Summary: Josh Towers outdueled Jared Weaver and Toronto’s bullpen made Aaron Hill’s RBI single stand up as the Blue Jays shut down the surging Mariners.
On the positive side … Angels lose so we’re still 1 back.
My job will only be done when everyone recognizes my title as mistress of fuck!
Wait, that came out wrong.
Sounded right to me Lauren, but I am the same guy that made the DSL joke. I think profanity is the simplest way to show your feelings. We all knew exactly what DAMellen meant when he said “Fuck”. I understood it and sympathized along with him.
And that’s three. One more and we officially have to change our rating to “R.”
This is baseball not gardening. You need to use the proper vocabulary to express the technical nuance. For instance would people still be quoting Lee Elia 25 years later if he hadn’t expressed himself so eloquently:
[deleted, there’s no need to be that way about this]
ah, Uncle Lee. I gather he was in Toronto today, doing some advance scouting, and so stopped by to see McLaren
I’m just suggesting that threads laced with F-bombs don’t help the credibility cause….
BTW, people quote Lee Elia 25 years later because he imploded…. he wasn’t exactly being a wordsmith…
