Indeed. He may be the best in the league at busting out of the box and hustling a single into a double.
#298– I loved to watch Clemente run, limbs all askew
I am 21 and never saw Clemente run
DMZ: Might that explain Bobby Madritsch’s career ending arm injury? Melvin had him pitch close to 140 right before he got hurt.
298,
There’s something about the camera angle that accentuates just how hilarious his stride is… maybe it has to do with how much dirt he kicks up with his cleets.
Ron Cey, aka the penguin, had to be the most entertaining base runner of all time. Those short legs achurning … I wonder if there’s any video of him on YouTube.
Ozzie Guillen making a case for hiring Dave.
Jones!
Ozzie Guillen: “I’m not a numbers guy.”
That’s probably not that great of a thing to brag about if you’re a major league baseball manager
Any comment from the “stat heads” on that Ozzie Guillen comment they just showed again? He said he’s never been a stat guy and was looking at the numbers this morning on a computer to see why his team was so bad.
w/w/r Madritsch: I repeatedly tore into Melvin for his overuse of Bobby here and elsewhere. There’s never a clear cause-effect, but it certainly didn’t help.
More proof the Sox broadcast team is awful- they spent the last few minutes discussing how Ibanez is a very good defensive left fielder who “makes all the plays out there”
They put Jones in, why not pinch hit for Guillen that last inning, give him an AB.
Nevermind, I was looking at something else.
Wait a minute I was right, Gamecast has so many bugs.
313. I am guessing that the rationale would be that there was a RISP and they wanted a veteran at the plate in that situation.
The ass print under Ben Broussard must be molded nicely in to the bench.
316 – Yeah but the two veterans before him couldn’t even hit a sac. fly.
Did Broussard get traded?
#303– youtube was a great call- they have a couple of Clemente videos, including his 3000th hit
319 – Yes. Broussard has been traded from the Mariners to the Bench in exchange for Sexson’s strikeouts
Morrow with something other than a fastball on that SO.
I think you’re confused. Broussard isn’t a Mariner. He was one of the ghosts in “Field of Dreams”. It’s the only place he gets to play.
Morrow looks really good today.
#317– IIRC, isn’t the technical term for that the ‘ass groove’?
msb – you are right, Clemente does run strangely, but I think Yuni has him beat
Tampa Bay beat Cleveland and the Yankees clubbed the fading Tigers. The Angels, unfortunately won.
Hey, that’s a sweep!
#326– goofy, but that run certainly never hurt him out in RF or on the base paths. there was a good documentary about him back in the 90s that still pops up on tv now & then
Vlad Guerrero also has a great arm flailing running style
Baek is doing some rehab starts.

HA! Cara Capuano just said that HoRam loves to pitch on the road. Funny thing is she was serious. It would be nice to have people on FSN who know things about baseball.
I volunteer to pitch instead of horam tomorrow. I have about an equal chance of posting a quality start in the metrodome as he does and at least my junk would be different junk then the Twins hitters have already blasted off on.
Zoinks! The Yanks play the Angels next. I would normally choke back the bile it raises in my throat and root for the Yankees to help the M’s. But in this case a win for the Yanks is no better for our playoff hopes than a win for the Angels.
I’m still going with the Yanks. They are only one of several teams we need to beat for the wild card. If we finish ahead of the Angels we’re in the playoffs, period.
Ulp. Stupid bile.
I don’t care what the other teams do, M’s need to take care of biz.
Well, if you are paying attention to the other teams, ideally you want both the Angels and the Yankees to have tight but high-scoring games that knock their starters out early and drain their bullpens. Lots of 11-10 twelve-inning sorts of games. That way they each go into their next series completely wiped, and get swept.
335-I love the way you think.
#333 – In this case, actually, it’s more helpful for the Yankees to beat the Angels. If we do our job and beat the Twins, we can come into next week’s series with a possible division lead – or at least a chance to put destiny in our own hands against the Angels next week.
Best case scenario? Yankees sweep Angels, M’s sweep Twins. M’s get 1 game lead in division, Yankees take a half-game lead over the Angels for the wild card.
I want an M’s sweep of the Twins, though. Because in the highly likely event that the Yankees win the series against the Angels, we can come out of Minnesota with at least a share of the division lead.
Did you guys see the article about Santana in the paper today? Shockingly, they think the Mariners would be better if they added him. I know. I was surprised too.
rain delay, so on ESPN radio they choose to fill with the 2001 WS.
Because the Yankees just don’t get enough media coverage …
HA! Cara Capuano just said that HoRam loves to pitch on the road. Funny thing is she was serious. It would be nice to have people on FSN who know things about baseball.
Of course he loves pitching on the road. In other cities a much smaller percentage of the people in the stadium realize he sucks. Call it the Dan O’Brian effect.

What would you like for your 2nd and 3rd wish?
Are your wishes transferable, Dizzle? ‘Cause I know a certain AL DH who’d love a little “Barry Juice” on his line drives…
Can’t wait for this series against the Twinks. Let this broom not be lonely.
BTW, I apparently finally won the $250 watch by having my texted question chosen on the postgame show today. My line in that regard is akin to that of circa 2008 “Big Sex”–.200 (though small sample size caveats are indeed quite applicable.)
344 – What was the question? I was listening at the time and thought it was a good one, but now I can’t remember. Congrats on the prize!
After the SportsCenter highlights of the game today, they decided to ask John Kruk what he thought the Mariners needed down the stretch. According to Kruk, what the Mariners need the most is not production from 1B, not better outfield defense, and not a #5 starter. The Mariners need confidence. Ugh.
346. But you missed the best part! He said that had a great starting rotation! At least he didn’t say this after tomorrow, when Ho-Ram gets slapped around like a red-haired stepchild*. Why is it when the team finally gets some national attention, it’s all a load of shit?
*Because of all our ragging, you know that little bastard’s going to toss a no hitter against the Twins.
