Mariners at Giants, televised, tonight

DMZ · March 27, 2008 at 5:41 pm · Filed Under Mariners

7:15! FSN! This is awesome for me because I’ve been totally sick — I’ve been looking forward to this even though there’s a good chance the lineup’s going to be awful.

After this, we get two games against the Cubs in Vegas (one home, one away) and then it’s the season opener on the 31st (at 3:40, which is kind of annoying)

Hopefully I just don’t fall asleep. They sure missed on the flu vaccination mix this year, huh. Holy mackeral.

“In Aurelia’s time with the Mariners, he was less than…great”

Yeah, but at least he enabled the Mariners to get rid of Carlos Guillen . . .

12 & 13: Don’t forget the Nat-Xpos and Florida Minnows are still in their league as well…so yeah, there should be plenty of optimism for the Giants to at least finish 7-155 on the year. 🙂

Hey! Morrow has a 10.80 ERA (I guess baseball lives and dies by the ERA, so I am referencing it)! Does this mean he’ll be sent down to the minors and be groomed as a starter? That would give us a bullpen of: Putz, Green, RRS, O’Flaherty, Baek, Dickey, and Lowe. Not bad, with Morrow getting prepped for starting in 09.

Rowland-Smith was impressive, and deserves to be on the team.

It was surprising that Blowers/Sims didn’t know much about Michael Saunders. I saw Saunders play in one of the practice games in Peoria last weekend, and he looks like a rising star. That was a great AB last night. Hopefully, he won’t end up as trade bait.

My brother-in-law accompanied me to Peoria, and he had the flu. The dry air seemed to help.

I was at the game last night and, while it was still the Giants (whose lineup is absolutely dreadful), Dickey looked great. And why, again, doesn’t Morse have a spot on this team again?

well, to quote Dave Andriesson in the PI:

“Mike Morse has certainly distinguished himself with his bat, his .523 average the third-highest among major leaguers with at least 20 at-bats. But he has not done so with his defense or his baserunning, which are critical for bench players.”

I’m a little more housebound than a lot of you, so count myself lucky to not have caught the flu if the flu shots this year (I got mine) are working — or not.

Nevertheless, for those of you who don’t do this already, wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands. Every time you touch a doorknob, a chairback, a table edge, a bathroom door (yeah, old ladies use their sleeves to touch the door handle, it’s not a bad habit to get into), anything else handled by others, particularly in public places (like grocery stores) or in shared space with a flu victim. It’s also not a bad idea to carry around one of those tiny travel-sized alcohol handwash bottles.

Sorry I missed watching the game last night. From the comments above I can’t tell if the M’s won, or lost… 😛

    they stomped ’em.

    well, kinda.

Morse is a liability in the outfield, but he has been solid at 3B. He made a couple of nice plays against the Angels last Sunday, right in front of our seats.

Morse played well again last night, but looked terrible at the plate.

It is beyond dispute that a few plays is not enough sample size to make a judgment about anyone’s fielding ability.

    Very funny Jeff.

    that’s an Austen quote, right?

Why has nobody thought about Coco Crisp for left field? The guy has speed, can hit for average, plays great defense, and Boston has no place for him. I’m sure they would love to take Norton or one of our bench people off our hands. Just an idea, yes i realize he is an injury waiting happen. No, i don’t care, worst case scenerio is Raul back in left.

    Jeff,

I didn’t make a judgment on Morse’s fielding ability. I simply made a specific and personal observation.

In regards to base running, Mr. Andriesen reached a conclusion based upon a very small sample size. In fact, I can only remember Morse making one base running mistake this spring, but that is only an observation…not a judgment.

  15. Jeff Nye on March 28th, 2008 2:59 pm

So, what’s the difference between an observation and a judgment, especially when the “observation” immediately follows you stating that Morse has been “solid at 3B”?

And who’s to say that Andriesen understands sample size any better than anyone else?

    [this is not a board]

    This is not a board.

Crap, am I allowed to say that?

    Whatever.
