Off-day suggestion

If I may — it’s beautiful, sunny, and you can see a Seattle-area baseball team on a four-game winning streak if you head down to the Tacoma Rainiers game tonight. 7:00 against the hated Tucson Sidewinders.

And if you can’t make it, you can always listen to the outstanding play-by-play of Mike Curto. If you haven’t written annoying letters to the Mariner complaining about why they don’t at least toss him some of the normal team’s vacation games, you should.

I envision him getting the nod when Niehaus retires. Of course any scenario where he replaces Rizzs immediately would be most ideal.

I’d much rather Curto replace Niehaus than Rizzs. Rick may be a softy but I don’t think he gets enough credit in this town. At least when I listen to Rizzo, I know what the freaking score is…

I’m going to watch my Portland Beavers on FSN tonight. They’re fifth in a five team division, but they’re only 3 games under .500. After watching the Mariners recently, that seems like playoff contention.

Oh, yeah? Well, our Mariners could probably take your Beavers. Maybe. Uh, eleven out of twenty?

The Padres just called up a bunch of guys from Portland, with the net result of making the Beavers worse, and potentially making the Padres stronger this weekend. Sometimes that “it’s a small world” stuff is really annoying.

    2 …

Niehaus is the Mariners version of Joe Paterno – he is here as long as he wants to be here … I think rick will be here a while too.

6: I think Joe Paterno was coaching the Nitanny Lions already back when they were signing the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia. 🙂

this is reminding me too much of the baseball up at the big club.

    [Rizzs]

7 – you are right … he collapsed on the field today bc of dehydration … all those wind sprits are tough on a coach. poor PSU fans – this guy needs to hang up the boots

Geez, when the coach collapses from dehydration, that’s telling you something!

I can’t wrap my head around someone liking Rizzs more than Neihaus.

I can see someone sentimentally liking Neihaus more than Curto (though I would do back flips if they hired Curto), but not Rizzs more than Neihaus – that doesn’t compute.

Of course I personally like – oh man, drawing a blank here – the sitcom writer who used to call M’s games. The guy who worked on M*A*S*H and Cheers… this is shameful. (The not remembering his name is shameful, not the liking him, though others might disagree.)

KEN LEVINE ? (He also worked on “Volunteers.”)
    de gustibus non est disputandum

Ken Levine was awesome. He had a very nasally voice, but he was hilarious. I miss him.

I’m still a fan of Niehaus. Sure, he thinks pop ups are BELTED DEEP TO.. shallow left field, but he’s got a soothing voice. Basically, even as he gets more and more senile I’m still going to love him. He’s like a member of my family, listening to him since I was too young to remember.

As far as Curto goes, never listened to a AAA game (shame on me). I was actually planning to listen tonight, with no Mariners, but instead of I decided to pick up a double at work. Hooray for 16 hour days.
