Game 120, Mariners at Angels

DMZ · August 13, 2008 at 6:05 pm · Filed Under Game Threads

King Felix v Santana. 7:05.

Here’s how ancient I am: Growing up, I used to like MTV’s 120 Minutes but we didn’t (and couldn’t) get cable in my bit of unincorporated King County, so I used to bug friends in other states to mail me video tapes. If you grew up here with me, listening to the big Puget Sound radio stations, you must understand.

Today marks an unimportant milestone: Riggleman has now managed as many games as McLaren lost before being fired.

McLaren: 25-47, .347
Riggleman: 20-27, .426

  4. msb on August 13th, 2008 9:36 pm

is this karma for last night’s cheap save?

oh, no, wait, it’s all the umpire’s fault …

  5. enazario on August 13th, 2008 9:36 pm

I just realized that K-Rod has more saves than Mariners have wins.

  6. Sinking Away on August 13th, 2008 9:36 pm

    Rauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuul Again!

  7. CC03 on August 13th, 2008 9:37 pm

Are Angels fans seriously booing? “Fans” I mean.

    That’s sort of pathetic.

  8. Jim_H on August 13th, 2008 9:37 pm

Can we pleeeeeeeeze keep Raul? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze ?

  9. msb on August 13th, 2008 9:38 pm

And, soon, an army of 1.3 billion Lefebvre Believers.

that would be one entertaining Nation.

    Raul Ibanez: earning his u’s

  11. Carson on August 13th, 2008 9:40 pm

Green in line to get the Vulture!

  12. Slippery Elmer on August 13th, 2008 9:42 pm

Re keeping Ibanez — sure, if he accedes to being DH and/or 1B, I’m all for it.

  13. CC03 on August 13th, 2008 9:42 pm

    Draft picks sound better.

  14. msb on August 13th, 2008 9:43 pm

Green in line to get the Vulchuer!

is that some exotic new French watch they award the winning pitcher?

  15. Sports on a Schtick on August 13th, 2008 9:44 pm

    LOL. Of course.

  16. Slippery Elmer on August 13th, 2008 9:45 pm

Screw Texeira. But what a game!

  17. Carson on August 13th, 2008 9:45 pm

Yeah, yeah. I fixed the spelling (before you posted even).

  18. Jim_H on August 13th, 2008 9:45 pm

    ugh… Did JJ clear waivers?

  19. Sinking Away on August 13th, 2008 9:45 pm

    CRAP. Putz.

  20. PaulMolitorCocktail on August 13th, 2008 9:46 pm

    Well that sucked.

  21. Carson on August 13th, 2008 9:46 pm

Aaaaand, now it doesn’t matter how I spelled it.

  22. G-Man on August 13th, 2008 9:47 pm

Still, a blown save for KR. Did they finally say that was his first of the year, not his fifth?

  23. Carson on August 13th, 2008 9:47 pm

Look at the bright side, Ichiro might get to extend his hitting streak now.

  24. G-Man on August 13th, 2008 9:48 pm

At least they didn’t get good wood on anything against JJ 😉

  25. jordan on August 13th, 2008 9:48 pm

Too bad we didn’t have Vidro to get in some of that late rally action.

  26. MattThompson on August 13th, 2008 9:54 pm

Still, a blown save for KR. Did they finally say that was his first of the year, not his fifth?

    It’s his fifth.

  27. MattThompson on August 13th, 2008 9:58 pm

By the way, Strasburg tonight, vs the Netherlands:

7IP, 0R, 1H, 11K (hit came vs the next-to-last batter he faced). His breaking stuff is better than I thought it would be. Of course, he was facing the Netherlands. Most of their players were Dutch Antilles guys who haven’t seen the minors in years.

  28. Jim_H on August 13th, 2008 10:01 pm

    G-Man,

Not sure where you are getting your stats. That is definitely K-Rods 5th blown save this season.

  29. Mike Snow on August 13th, 2008 10:04 pm

    Ichiro gets another chance now.

  30. JoseMesa69 on August 13th, 2008 10:05 pm

“Joe’s Tracer” is ridiculously off. Maybe if everyone’s strike zone was the size of a container of Chinese food… How could our announcers not notice that by this point in the season?

  31. Mike Snow on August 13th, 2008 10:09 pm

Oh well, shoot for the fourteenth now.

  32. PaulMolitorCocktail on August 13th, 2008 10:15 pm

    Nacho cheese burger…

  33. Breadbaker on August 13th, 2008 10:15 pm

Roy Corcoran: one of those cheap assets that can make up part of an effective bullpen. Doesn’t need a “role”, just goes out and gets outs.

  34. Jim_H on August 13th, 2008 10:19 pm

    I’m gonna beg some more…

Can we pleeeeeeeze keep Raul? Pretty Pleazzzze?

  35. Sinking Away on August 13th, 2008 10:19 pm

One last time for Rauuuuuul. 4 in a row. We can’t have a better chance than that. Get him home. Just in spire me.

  36. enazario on August 13th, 2008 10:19 pm

Ibanez is fun to watch these days.

  37. MattThompson on August 13th, 2008 10:21 pm

    And Beltre sacrificing. Just gross.

  38. Sports on a Schtick on August 13th, 2008 10:25 pm

    Wlad!!!!!!!!!!!1

  39. Sinking Away on August 13th, 2008 10:25 pm

Oh yeah!!! Way to turn it around young man.

  40. HamNasty on August 13th, 2008 10:25 pm

4 K’s and the biggest hit of his career. Nice Game Wlad.

  41. Breadbaker on August 13th, 2008 10:26 pm

Damn that Wlad, didn’t leave anyone on base for Cairo.

  42. oac001 on August 13th, 2008 10:26 pm

    WLAD!!!!!!!!!!

  43. naviomelo on August 13th, 2008 10:28 pm

    WLAD!!!!!!!

  44. nvn8vbryce on August 13th, 2008 10:33 pm

Gameday is showing that there was an injury delay. Who was injured?

Update: Tanks for the runs, Mr. Balentien. Nice work! Thanks for the win!

  45. Sinking Away on August 13th, 2008 10:33 pm

WLAD beats Vlad. Works for me.

  46. Sports on a Schtick on August 13th, 2008 10:33 pm

One of the finest wins of the year.

  47. JoseMesa69 on August 13th, 2008 10:37 pm

94 – The umpire got hit on the arm with the ball and a gourd-sized bunyon sprouted near his wrist, shortly followed by a Dave Valle erection (if you were listening, you know).

  48. msb on August 13th, 2008 10:42 pm

well, that was an unexpected outcome.

  49. Sports on a Schtick on August 13th, 2008 10:48 pm

The home plate umpire got hit with a foul ball near the end so there was a little delay.

Earlier Macier Izturis left after reinjuring his thumb. I think that was on Yuni’s single in the awesome ninth inning.

  50. msb on August 13th, 2008 10:58 pm

caller to the postgame is concerned that those young players from Tacoma are taking too many fast balls.
