Funny random thought

After writing the waivers explained post, in which we discuss waivers, no-trade clauses, and whether Washburn’s no trade clause would prevent the M’s from even requesting irrevocable waivers (unless they bought out the clause ahead of time), I thought “I wish Kim Ng was around, she worked in the MLB transactions office for a while and is notorious for knowing this kind of thing inside and out.” There’s always hope.
Hope? How is that hope? She doesn’t work for the M’s. There’s no way in hell this regressive bunch of Neanderthal dipsticks is going to hire a GIRL. They’re going to hire Dave Valle.
I’m sure the M’s front office fully understands the waiver process. I’m also sure that the problem wasn’t process, but talent evaluation.
They’re going to hire Dave Valle.
…Maybe as batting coach?
If we can’t get Antonetti, I want Ng.
I’ll take anyone with a Baseball IQ above room temperature…
I don’t know when it happened, but I’ve definitely pinned my hopes on Ng coming to Seattle.
Because you think they think they’ll get a tractable, passive girl…who’ll show them the iron fist within the velvet once she gets the job?
Wouldn’t mind that at all…
At this point, I’d take a polling feature being added to USSM and having all moves proposed, voted on, and authorized by majority vote of the community, over the current FO.
Which… how sad is it that that system would be world’s better than the “brain” trust they have now?! Sabermetric heavy local bloggers could outthink, outplan, and outmaneuver the current Mariners front office, and put a better team on the field for far less money.
And in far less time, I think…
“Funny Random Thought” describes what goes through the brains of Mariner management every day.
LOVE hincandenza’s idea at #8. Dave, DMZ, can we make this happen? It’d be fun.
Only their “funny random thoughts” are only funny to them. They make the rest of us want to commit mass suicide.
If the M’s hire Dave Valle for any position higher than janitor, expect the suicide rate in Seattle to jump astronomically.
I don’t find this thought that funny.
I find it rather depressing, and it makes me want to punch myself in the face. No, seriously.
Speaking of funny random thoughts…
Athletically speaking, the exact diametric opposite of Michael Phelps has to be the Mariners front office…..
“If the M’s hire Dave Valle for any position higher than janitor, expect the suicide rate in Seattle to jump astronomically.”
I think I’ll make a button that says:
Dave Valle
For Mariner Janitor
NOW
Speaking of funny random thoughts, the Mariners could very well be mathematically eliminated before September 1st.
Elimination number: 14
That’s only for the division!
There’s always the wildcard to shoot for, where their elimination number is a much bigger 18.
I think they will shortly be mathematically eliminated from next year’s playoffs at the rate things are going.
Baker says it, so it must be true
It’s going to be Dave Valle.
gossipy note from Scott Miller at CBS:
“Mariners president Chuck Armstrong is telling people that interim GM Lee Pelekoudas definitely will not become the permanent GM but that the organization will retain him in another role. And in the clubhouse, one big league executive says he hears Seattle is “as big a mess as ever” under interim manager Jim Riggleman.”
….”one big league executive says he hears Seattle is ‘as big a mess as ever’ under interim manager Jim Riggleman.â€
Which is to say, “we know Jim Riggleman isn’t the real problem, it’s his bosses running that mess who are the problem, and we dread doing business with them.”
According to the P-I, the Mariners were asking for a starting pitcher on the Twins’ 40-man roster in exchange for Washburn. It’s unclear whether the Twins ever got around to actually saying “no”, or whether they just laughed until Pelekoudas put the phone down. You KNOW that’s Lincoln and Armstrong’s doing. They’re still here, and they will always be here.
Speaking of the funny (as in strange) random (as in not part of any coherent strategy) thoughts (as in pure reflexes without benefit of higher cognitive facilities), why did the M’s put Ibanez on waivers? Did they really think they could work out a deal with KC to send him back there?
That would be a nice feather in the cap. Personally, I am rooting for them to finish 40+ games behind the Angels, basically so I can point and laugh (and because that was the first thing out of my mouth when I heard about the Teixeira trade).
After this latest abortion, this sentiment seems irrationally optimistic.
Doom . . . there is only doom.
some more, um, bafflement? with the FO maneuvering.
The story that msb links to has two things of note.
One, Joe Christensen (The StarTrib’s equivalent of Baker?) doesn’t understand compensation picks, because he wrote this about the Ibanez waiver claim:
No, Joe, the Tigers figured $1.4 million was a cheap price to pay for two quality draft picks next year. Jeez, you’d think someone who does this for a living would know that.
Second thing of note:
Good freaking God, if the M’s turned down that deal – dump Washburn’s salary and get back a 26 year old non-arb-eliqible starting pitcher with a roughly 4.50 xFIP over his last almost 300 IPs…
ABORT
RETRY
