Baker v RRS. 7:10. Here’s hoping Ryan tosses another fine game and the M’s can string some wins together. That’d be sweet.

Lopez is quietly putting together a pretty good season, isn’t he? Maybe this is the year he overcomes that second half jinx.
Speaking of Betancourt, here’s something that won’t surprise anybody. Look here and sort (click) on the “pitches” column. Look who sits at the top with fewest pitches seen among those with at least 450 PA?
And a fair chunk of the grammar too. English is a highly fault-tolerant language. Slurve is doing stress testing.
He’s taking Willie’s spot on the roster, isn’t he? Speaking of rosters, CBS Sportsline still shows Craig Wilson on the M’s Active roster. They’ve had that glitch ever since the M’s picked Wilson up. I guess nobody pays any attention to the M’s games at CBS.
He’s taking Willie’s spot on the roster, isn’t he?
The “punchless roleplayer” spot? I guess. Except he already has one XBH, so he’s not being a team player by making Willie look bad.
Another time that they bunt in front of Ichiro, so the opposing team can walk our best hitter. Brilliant.
Well, you wouldn’t want the Mariners to go and learn from their previous mistakes.
Nice play by Tug.
Nats won so why won’t we lose. I do love this team but it would be nice to have another possible Ace in the rotation to help out Felix…
Hmmmmm-
Does Bedard count as a Ace or a Joker???
pinch hit Burke for Clement….hmmmm
I see that DMZ is being proved correct reagrding the ease in which closers can be found.
One thing to bear in mind about this idea of losing: there are no players on the Mariners with an incentive to lose to get a good draft pick. How many players on this team will be here when Strasburg hits the majors? They are fighting for jobs, if not here then elsewhere in the majors. Their loyalty is essentially to themselves and their careers, not the longterm interest of Mariners fans, as exemplified by the “Strasburg” crowd.
Nice win. Nice pitching by two guys who cost about 1/50 of a Silva.
That is so true. But if their long term intrest was to do good. Then what is with the players they have.
Batista- Aged to perfection…I think not
Johjima- See Batista
Silva- Can I get my cheeseburger back please
I don’t think that these three (I only did the obvious three. I could of went on a rant but decide not too) couldnt care too much about longterm interest unless it got them millions more. They ran-sacked the M’s and now we are paying the rewards. At least to me ( a fan in Japan) that is the way it seems.
“I tell him around the batting cage all the time how much he means to us, the way he keeps getting after it. Adrian is banged up, but he’s physically one of the toughest players I’ve ever seen play the game.” –Jim Riggleman
If it help SD won too so nobody lost ground on the “strasburg sweepstakes.”
You did that deliberately, didn’t you, Slurve?
I’m getting tired of this race to the bottom/Strasburg sweepstakes shit. Cheering against your team is — purely in my opinion — sucky behavior even if it results in a long-term benefit. But it goes beyond that.
Look:
1. The Nationals are a way worse team (hard as that is to believe) and they have a much harder schedule over the remaining weeks. The M’s are not going to catch them at the bottom.
2. Even with first pick, the Nationals might not bust slot to pick Strasburg
3. Even if the M’s have first pick, or the Nat’s do but pass on Strasburg, the M’s may not bust slot to pick him either.
4. Even if the M’s do end up with Strasburg, he may never see the majors (Ryan Christianson ring a bell?) or he may end up not being anything special (Jeff Austin? Tim Stauffer?) or he might blow up his arm (too many to list).
All of this means that talking about Strasburg all the time makes you sound like the guy who insists he’s going to move to California where Angelina Jolie will divorce Brad Pitt and marry him. Yeah, it’s possible but it’s unlikely, and even if it happens it’s still getting annoying to listen to. I realize there’s essentially no reason left to watch the team except the pure love of baseball, but tedious and repetitive is tedious and repetitive, no matter how likely (or not). You’re being worse than a bad fan. You’re being boring. Don’t be boring.
I must apologize for my post. It sounded horrible and for that I am sorry. I will try to stop being boring on-top of it. Thanks for the insight Joser.
I bow down to everyone’s vetran grit here on this blog as I am a rookie that sucks right now.
Joser, the other thing to bear in mind is that regardless of the almost ridiculous scouting that goes on (“Top 12 year old” and I wish I were making it up), the fact is that some 17-year old shortstop somewhere may grow four inches and become the next A-Rod by next June.
Slurve Translate-a-Tron 2000: If it may be of any consolation to the dear readers of USS Mariner, the San Diego Padres, owners of one of the poorer records in all of baseball, as played at the Major League level, won their game tonight, thus matching the performances of the Washington Nationals and our hometown Mariners. Fear not, brave fans, your beloved team may yet finish with the poorest record in all of baseball, thus securing the rights to draft an exciting young prospect next June.
I didn’t mean that rant to be a specific indictment or criticism of anyone in particular. It was just the accumulated result of reading the same thing over and over from many different commenters for the past few weeks.
