You know, I was more of an Edgar-fan and a Buhner-fan than a Griffy-fan, but my favorite memories of the Mariners are mostly ones of Griffey too. But for me – I’m guessing that I differ from Reynolds in this – this is probably because your first memories are hard to beat and I first became a M’s fan in the early 90’s, when Griffey was everything and Edgar and Buhner were like his side-kicks or something. Even “the double” sticks out in my memory more as a memory of Griffey scoring than of Edgar hitting.
And don’t forget that home run against Wetteland and the Yankees on August 27th that began the amazing run of 1995.
I know it’s almost hopeless at this point, but I’m really hoping that Beltre is with the M’s next year.

When the M’s went to the 5-infielder set, they put Ichiro behind second base as #5.
That left Reed and Feet of Concrete as our 2-man outfield.
Why not Raul to 1B, Cairo behind 2B?
I have been out of touch lately but I just drove by the Safe and it looked like the roof was broken. It was extended but there was a hole where it should connect in the outfield. Am I somehow tricked by an optical illusion, is this a weird mode, or is the worst sports year a city has ever had just continuing.
eh– when she was with KOMO, and Fox would play the postgame remarks, you’d hear her asking questions then …

I think you may have been tricked by something you’re smoking. If there was any major failure at Safeco you would’ve heard about it. It looked fine to me yesterday when I drove by sometime during the Seahawks game. The only part that “connects” with the outfield are the tracks the roof runs on (and even then the connection is only in appearance — the roof together with its guideway and supports is essentially an entirely separate structure that just happens to fit around and over the field).
Though never fear, once the parking structure bonds are paid off in 2011 the PFD (ie, us taxpayers) will still be paying to fix things at Safeco, including things (like heaters for the bullpen) that the team left out of the original build to save their own expenses.
OK, so I guess it’s possible perhaps to extend the roof out to the homeplate side and then retract it in that direction, creating the illusion of a broken roof.
I’ve driven by the Safe a million times with the roof both retracted and extended and I’ve never seen it like that before…
…or maybe the loss to the 9ers hit me harder than I thought it did.
I think the telescoping center portion can be separated into 3 sections ….
Fox didn’t fire her.
